Residents in call for action over parking

- By LATIFA YEDROUDJ News Reporter

RESIDENTS are furious about parking conditions on a busy road, and are urging authorities to take action before it is “too late”.

Locals in the area have voiced concerns over the parking along School Lane in Exhall, which they say is spiralling out of control.

A photo, which has been shared on Facebook, shows cars parked on both sides of the road, leaving just a narrow gap for oncoming traffic. The resident wrote in the photo caption: “Beyond ridiculous now- using both sides so no one can get through.”

Other residents have shared similar concerns, with some fearing someone “might get killed” amid overcrowded parking conditions.

One resident wrote: “Somebody is going to get killed down there soon with the amount of idiot parking. About time they red-lined the entire stretch down to the motorway bridge.”

Meanwhile, another said: “I did see it but I’ve given up nobody cares about any accidents.” One added: “Council and police do nothing till yellow lines are on the road.”

Exhall residents have previously expressed concerns over parking conditions along School Lane. Earlier this year, members of Exhall Residents Association started a petition for the council to create safer parking for residents amid safety fears.

Duane Clarke died in October last year after his motorbike collided with a car at the junction of School Lane and Exhall Green. Residents are fearing their safety on the road, which some said is endangering pedestrians and motorists in the area.

They asked Warwickshire County Council to place trafficcalming measures on School Lane, including an access weight limit be put on Exhall Green for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, and that either ‘yellow lines or a permit scheme’ be introduced for parking on School Lane.

Exhall councillor Damon Brown previously said: “We have raised issues with congestion, parking and the junction with Exhall Green and School Lane. We’ve asked the county council for traffic-calming measures along School Lane to combat this problem and have been raising this issue for a number of years.

“We sympathise with residents who live in this area. The new housing estate which has gone ahead has contributed to the parking problem, and we’ve raised this issue with those in charge of the council but they’ve ignored us.

“It’s an ongoing problem and we’ll keep fighting for residents to get something down about it. We fully support getting something done to calm traffic on the road and improve the junction.”
