FORMER Wasps head coach Lee Blackett will take charge of the Barbarians for their clash with Northampton Saints.

The 39-year-old is out of work after he was named among the 167 Wasps players, coaches and employees who were made redundant after the club entered into administration last week.

But he will get the chance to keep his skills sharp when the famous touring side heads to Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday, November 26.

It has already been revealed that former Wasps players Dan Robson and Brad Shields will be among the players wearing the famous black and white hooped jerseys next month.

Blackett will be joined by former Leicester Tigers director of rugby Geordan Murphy an ex Cardiff Blues boss, John Mulvihill.

Irishman Murphy’s 23 years at Tigers came to an end in November 2020, having represented the club more than 300 times as a player before holding a variety of coaching roles at Welford Road. Capped 72 times by his country, the talented fullback also appeared the Baabaas as a player. Completing the coaching line-up is John Mulvihill. He left Cardiff in January 2021 and has had a regular involvement within the Barbarians coaching setup. Meanwhile, the break-up of

Wasps’ squad continues as tighthead prop John Ryan returned to the club he left in the summer, Munster. He follows Will Porter (Bristol Bears), Biyi Alo (Racing 92), Josh Bassett (Harlequins) and Will Simonds (Chinnor) in being confirmed as finding a new club.

Loosehead prop Rodrigo Martinez, who made five appearances either side of an Achilles rupture, has been called up to the Argentina squad for the Autumn internationals while his former colleague Charlie Atkinson is involved in the England squad as a ‘training player.’ To purchase Barbarians tickets, visit www.eticketing.co.uk/northamptonsaints
