New city app offers discounts to residents

- By ELLIE BROWN News Reporter

PEOPLE living in Coventry can now get a new app connecting them with great discounts and businesses in the city.

The ‘Go CV’ app launched this week and is for anyone signed up with the council-run money-saving scheme.

Users of the app can now access special offers on the go, such as reduced entry to attractions The Wave and St Mary’s Guildhall.

They can also find and make orders from local businesses using the app’s interactive map or look through its extensive list of shops and services.

Cllr Jim O’boyle Cabinet Member for Jobs, Regeneration and Climate Change said: “It’s been a tough time for many local businesses and it continues to be a tough time for many local people too - but this new app will help everyone.

“We have some really great local businesses in Coventry, and we hope the new app will help local people to discover new shops and services on their doorstep.

“There is also the opportunity for local businesses to offer discounts to Coventry people and that is certainly needed at the moment.”

The app uses multi-million pound technology from ecommerce business bubltown.

Coventry is one of the first of its launches in the UK and more than 120 businesses have signed up.

It’s free for businesses to register although the app takes a cut of 3% plus 10p on every transaction made.

The Go CV scheme now has over 85,000 members, a quarter of Coventry’s population.

Anyone can sign up if they live in the city, pay council tax and can provide proof of address.

Even better savings via Go CV+ are available to carers, asylum seekers, students and anyone receiving benefits.

Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet member for Public Health and Sport, said: “When we first created Go CV, the aim was to start something that will continue to grow and reach all communities.

“We have done exactly that and we are now at over 85,000 members - it’s a fantastic achievement for all involved.”

People who download the app by next Monday will be entered into a prize draw and can win one of 22 prizes, such as shopping vouchers or fireworks tickets.

It’s available on Android and Apple stores. Pop-up stands with more information will also be in the city this week. Find these at:
