Anger over ignorant drivers who park totally blocking the pavement

RESIDENTS’ FRUSTRATION AS NEITHER POLICE OR COUNCIL WILL DEAL WITH THESE PROBLEMS

- By LATIFA YEDROUDJ

A COVENTRY resident has complained about neighbours parking along the pavement outside his home every day. Lindsay Harriman has shared a photo of a car parked on a footpath along Ashdown Close in Binley.

It shows the car with all four wheels on the pavement and covering its entire width, meaning anyone who wants to walk past has to step into the road or a neighbour’s front garden. Lindsay is furious of the parking situation in his neighbourhood street - and this is not the first time he has spotted vehicles parking on the pavement.

Earlier this week, the resident snapped a photo of three cars parked on the same footpath right next to each other. The resident fears the safety of other vulnerable people in the area.

He said he has seen neighbours with pushchairs forced to walk on to the road as the vehicles obstruct the footpath. Lindsay said: “I have not spoken to the householder concerned as my grandmother advised me many years ago that it is impossible to talk sense to them.

“Another reason is that amongst the comings and goings over there it is difficult to discern a responsible adult, so I try to ignore the fact that they all exist.

“From what my wife tells me, there are many people in this close that find the parking on that corner to be problematic.

It is plainly wrong to park with all gour wheels on the pavement and completely obscure the footpath, but who will legislate against it as police and council both refute any responsibility for doing so? These are strange times we live in!”

Earlier in July, Lindsay spotted cars parking on the pavement multiple times. He said he has tried speaking to the motorists about their parking - but said his pleas fell on deaf ears.

He said at the time: “Can you imagine trying to have a reasonable conversation with people who park in such a manner? I personally try to ignore the fact that such imbeciles exist anywhere, let alone in close proximity to me.

“But they are certainly an irritant to me and my neighbours on far too often a basis, and with multiple cars,” Lindsay said, adding there are often multiple cars parked along the pavement, and nearby residents are growing frustrated with their parking habits.

He added: “They appear to have the use of at least two vehicles but sometimes more visit the address. It has been pointed out that pushchairs cannot get past their cars, but then it should be blatantly obvious that the footpath is obstructed.”

Reacting to the story, many readers have slammed the poor parking with many labelling it as “selfish” behaviour.

One Facebook user said: “Name and shame, this shouldn’t happen at all, it makes it dangerous for pedestrians to get past and impossible for some..”

Another user added: “Selfish people do this! No consideration for wheelchairs or pushchairs. I was a childminder and coming across situations like this when you have to walk in the road is dangerous.”

Meanwhile, one added: “This is happening all over the country and the police are doing nothing about it until somebody is hurt or killed.”

Another resident wrote: “It’s the same all around Garth Crescent and March Way no respect at all and it’s even worse at school time.” However, some users were quick to dismiss the urgency of the situation.

One wrote: “People must have real problems when all they have to do is look at their windows and get angry about cars being there.”

Another user even suggested to walk around the parked car. They said: “I can see lawned garden by the side of the car so would just walk over that-or pushchair over it. Did that years ago in my own close.
