New date revealed for huge Cov Sikh union charity walk

THE EVENT HAD PREVIOUSLY BE POSTPONED DUE TO THE DEATH OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II

- By CLAIRE HARRISON

A NEW date has been revealed for the huge Coventry Sikh union charity walk. It has been confirmed that the 35th annual Guru Tegh Bahadur ji Charity walk will be held on Sunday, November 20.

The event was due to take place earlier this year. It was postponed due to the sad death of Queen Elizabeth II.

But now a new date has been set for the fifteen kilometre walk, which will start and finish at Ramgarhia Gurdwara in Coventry.

It calls in at several Gurdwaras, Mandirs and Churches in the Foleshill area including Coventry Cathedral in the city centre. Not only does it bring the community together, but the walk raises funds for good causes and this year is no exception.

Funds raised from this year’s walk will be for Bowel Cancer UK, Lord Mayors Charities and Sikh Union Local. Money will also be donated to international projects.

Bali Panesar, club spokesman, said: “This year we are delighted in raising funds for the Bowel Canceruk which is solely dependent on public donations. Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest cancer killer.

“Please donate to this worthy cause.”

The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Kevin Maton, will be performing the ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the start the walk, as well as participating in the event itself, along with ‘Lady Godiva,’ Pru Porretta. Sikh Union Chairman Palvinder Chana will also be at the start along other dignitaries including members of the British army and Nepalese community of Nuneaton.

Participants can register at 9am on the day. Sponsorship forms can be downloaded from the website or the Facebook page Sikhunioncoventrynews.
