COVENTRY’S annual Remembrance Day service is set to take place this year at the War Memorial Park.

The service will honour and pay respect to those who have lost their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

The service will take place on Sunday, November 13. It will begin at Spencer Park and makes its way to the War Memorial Park, through the ceremonial gates, to the Cenotaph where a service will be led by The Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, the Bishop of Coventry.

As in previous years, members of the public are invited to attend the service and join civic guests to mark this important date in the city’s events diary.

The service will take place at 10.45am and guests and the public should assemble at The Cenotaph, near the park’s Leamington Road entrance, from 10.30am.

The event will feature a parade, hymns, readings, a two-minute silence and prayers, followed by the laying of wreaths by representatives of the Armed Forces, emergency services, civic representatives, and many other groups in memory of the fallen. Ex-serviceman Mr Ralph Wooldridge TD, who lives in Coventry, will recite The Exhortation, famous words associated with Remembrance events, and the reading of Kohima.

Pastor Eniiwaju Etomi, the Senior Pastor at Holy Ghost Zone Parish in Hillfields, will deliver a reading and prayers will be led by The Reverend Tony Janew, Deacon, Christ the King, based in Coundon.

The Lord Mayor of Coventry, councillor Kevin Maton, who will take the salute, said: “The city’s annual Remembrance Day Service and Parade helps us remember, honour, and pay our respects to all those who have lost their lives due to wars or armed conflict. This service is always very important to the city and acts as a timely reminder for everyone as to why we continue to promote peace and reconciliation around the world.

“As the numbers of people attending each year illustrates, we know how much the service in the War Memorial Park means to our residents and I’m sure this year’s’ service will be as wellattended as ever and we come together to mark the day.”

The annual Communal Grave Service at London Road Cemetery will take place at 3pm.

The service is open to members of the public to attend and remembers the civilians and volunteers who died during the Coventry Blitz in 1940.
