Victorian Market is back
THE temperatures are getting colder and the nights are getting longer, which can only mean one thing - Christmas is just around the corner.
This year, as part of the festive fun, the Victorian Christmas Market returns to Stratford-upon-avon.
This unique themed event will see stall holders dressed for the occasion in Victorian period costume, with hundreds of stalls offering delicious food and quirky Christmas gifts. There’ll even be a traditional funfair and live entertainment throughout the town centre.
The Victorian Christmas Market is back in Stratford-upon-avon in December - but it’s only around for four days, so if you want to enjoy the festivities, you’ll need to be quick about it.
The 2022 Victorian Christmas Market will be taking place across several streets in Stratford-upon-avon town centre. The market will take place on the following streets:
Waterside
Bridge Street
Henley Street
High Street
Meer Street
There’ll also be a traditional funfair located at the bottom of Wood Street and on Rother Street. Rother Street will also play host to a stage featuring live entertainment.
The 2022 Victorian Christmas Market opens on Thursday, December 8 and closes on Sunday, December 11th. Opening hours are as follows:
Thursday, December 8 10am to 8pm
Friday, December 9 - 10am to 8pm
Saturday, December 10 10am to 8pm
Sunday, December 11 10am to 5pm
This year, the Victorian Christmas Market is set to host more than 300 stalls selling food and gifts. Stall holders will be easy to spot - because they’ll be dressed in Victorianthemed costumes. Expect stalls selling Christmas gifts and lots of hot food stands.
Revellers will also be able to enjoy the traditional funfair which will include a carousel on Wood Street and Rother
Street, as well as sampling live performances on the Rother Street stage.
There are a number of car parks within easy reach of the Victorian Christmas Market. Parkopedia has a list of car parks in the vicinity, including Rother Street, The Market, Artshouse, Church Street and Windsor Street. They can get quite busy - the leisure centre car park is a good option if you don’t mind a bit of a walk or use the park and ride from the train station.
Stratford-upon-avon railway station is just outside the town centre - it’s about an 11-minute walk away from Rother Street and Wood Street so the best option might be the park and ride which has regular buses operating from the station.
Stratford-on-avon District Council has warned local residents and businesses that a series of roads will be closed during the Victorian Christmas Market. The following roads will be closed from 2pm on Wednesday, December 7 to 0.01am on Monday, December 12:
Waterside (to the junction of Sheep Street)
Bridge Street Waterside
Wood Street
Meer Street
Henley Street
Rother Street Market (paved area)
High Street
Union Street
However, Rother Street itself will not be closed during the Market. Access from Greenhill Street and Windsor Street will remain open.
