City thugs part of gang that poured petrol on woman’s face

- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter

TWO Coventry thugs were part of a sick gang who poured petrol on a woman’s face and said: ‘Get a lighter.’

Shane Lee Salmon and Hayley Karen Bartlett, both of Hugh Road, Coventry, and Roxanne Chelsea Gallagher from Stoke-on-trent, burst into the victim’s home wearing masks.

Salmon asked for her partner and when she said he wasn’t there, they forced their way in and the victim was grabbed and had material put in her mouth that had been doused in petrol. During the ordeal, which saw her repeatedly punched and kicked, someone then doused the victim’s head and face with petrol and she struggled to breathe.

A court was told that Gallagher was heard to say “get a lighter”, leaving the victim fearing for her life. The victim was then thrown into the stairs wall before Bartlett pepper sprayed her in the face in the house in Burslem, Stoke.

They then stole a laptop, two iphones, a designer purse, two necklaces, a watch and the victim’s car keys, leaving her with five facial fractures and multiple bruises on her body. The following day, Salmon stole a woman’s car at knifepoint.

Salmon and Bartlett were then arrested on the M6 and charged. Gallagher was arrested and charged several months later.

All three were sentenced at Stokeon-trent Crown Court on Thursday, November 17. Salmon, who is 26, was sentenced to 12 years in jail for two counts of robbery. Bartlett, who is 30, was jailed for 11 years for robbery, possession of monkey dust and possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious gas/liquid. Gallagher, aged 35, of Sefton Road, Normacot, Stoke-on-trent, was given 11 years in prison for robbery. Speaking after the court case, senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Andy Bryan, of CID, praised those who helped to bring the trio to justice. “I would like to thank all those involved in the successful conviction of Salmon, Bartlett and Gallagher,” DI Bryan said.

He added: “It was a terrifying ordeal for the victim. These convictions and sentences reflect the severity and seriousness with which these offences are taken.”
