Stagecoach bus fares to increase across borough in huge shake-up

- By LATIFA YEDROUDJ

BUS fares will rise for passengers across Nuneaton and Warwickshire. Stagecoach has said it is making the changes to battle the rising cost of running bus services.

The changes will be implemented from Sunday, December 4, onwards. The cost of monthly bus passes will increase as much as £15.

Stagecoach said the rise reflects the cost of running services, which have risen by around 40 per cent, mainly driven by increase in maintenance costs, price of raw materials and energy bills.

The money from the fares will also go towards paying for the day-to-day running of services as well as investing in new buses and other customer improvements. It also covers additional costs including paying government taxes which support public services.

Stagecoach recently announced that over £50m is being invested in 200 new vehicles across England.

Mark Whitelocks, managing director for Stagecoach Midlands, said: “Stagecoach has consistently delivered some of the lowest ticket prices in the country and we are committed to continuing to keep fares as low as possible for our passengers. Businesses such as Stagecoach have been facing significantly increased costs which continue to put pressure on fares.

“We have worked hard to absorb as many of these costs as possible. The money from fares goes towards paying for the day-to-day running of services, as well as being re-invested into improvements for our customers, including in new buses, and improved technology to help make travel easier.

“We remain focused on offering a wide range of value tickets.”

The Nuneaton Megarider will be rising from £118.10 to £132.90 - an increase of £14.80. The new cost of singles, returns, dayriders and travel zones have yet to be confirmed.
