Your say on parking in city

- By DAVID PRINCE News Reporter

AS Coventry’s parking woes continue with ticket numbers soaring towards pre-pandemic figures, readers have been saying where they feel the problem areas are.

It comes amid the release of a new council report shedding light on the city’s “hotspots” for vehicular congestion.

Beyond the bustling city centre and school gates, these hotspots are said to face unique challenges throughout the day when it comes to enforcing parking regulations. Readers have offered their own suggestions - and shared some possible solutions.

Blueblue123 commented: “Shocker the worse area is Walsgrave Road... most the road is a red route so shouldn’t be any parking there at all - but it’s not properly enforced i.e. CCTV automation so nothing happens. Shambles.”

Covkid said: “The worst offenders are those who park with all 4 wheels on the pavement and the thoughtless drivers who block dropped kerbs for wheelchair access.” Ytf said: “I agree in what you said, but inconsiderate parking can cause death and injury.”

Hancock13 said: “That’s why the police stop cars with lights not on or working, or where the driver isn’t wearing a seat belt - because they then find more serious crimes.”

Mikehf commented: “Residents parking schemes are a waste of time if they are not enforced.”

Lordgodiva said: “Well a panacea would be to reduce parking charges and a hostile environment that drives people to out of town retail parks. Plus firm, but fair traffic enforcement. Some beat police.”

The Unseen Eye offered a solution, by saying: “Residents-only parking permits would go a long way to resolving having to park on double yellow lines.”

Bernie S asked: “What about the Radford Road, especially outside the shops?”
