Plans for summer Orange Lodge parades submitted
PLANS have been lodged for Loyal Orange Lodge parades to take place in three East Ayrshire villages this summer.
A listing on the East Ayrshire Council ‘marches, parades and processions’ website shows an application has been submitted for the parade to take place in Auchinleck, Logan and Drongan.
If approved, they would happen on Saturday, June 29 – the same day as a planned procession in Patna by the Brother James Gillespie Memorial LOL (Loyal Orange Lodge), previously reported in the Chronicle.
Brother William Smith Memorial LOL has applied for permission for 60 people to take part in its annual Battle of the Boyne anniversary parade in Logan between 8am and 5pm.
And the Brother James McCombe Memorial LOL has made a similar application for 80 people to take part in the Boyne Celebrations Parade from 8am until 5pm in Auchinleck.
A third application from the John Knox LOL seeks permission for between
45 and 60 people to march in Drongan, again between 8am and 5pm.
The Patna parade application, by the Brother James Gillespie Memorial LOL, would take place at 8am.
The deadlines to object to the Patna and Logan parades have already passed, but the deadline for any objections to the Auchinleck application is Wednesday, May 15.
For the Drongan parade the objection
deadline is Thursday, May 16.
A much larger parade, organised by the County Grand Lodge of Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Argyll, saw thousands of marchers take to the streets of Cumnock last June.
It’s understood that the County Grand Lodge’s main march will not take place in Ayrshire this year.
