Momentum Transend E+

A fun and functional introduction to getting around by e-bike

-

The Transend E+ is all about style, fun and convenience – so says its maker Momentum, which is part of road bike manufacturer Giant’s mega cycling empire.

The bike’s funky looks and four bright colour options certainly chime with that description. However, there’s serious performance and practicality beneath the bright and bubbly surface. The 250Wrated Yamaha Syncdrive Life mid-drive motor boasts an impressive 60Nm of torque for easy hill-climbing, and the 500Wh down tube-integrated battery claims up to 100 miles of range.

There are also low-maintenance and easy-to-operate Shimano Nexus sevenspeed hub gears and powerful yet smooth hydraulic disc brakes. A further practical touch is that the battery can reach 80% charge in just two hours – that’s a lot quicker than most bikes, and good news if you need a quick turnaround before you get riding.

The Transend E+ looks to offer an easy and luxurious ride too. This is helped along by large-volume tyres for comfort, stability and a decent turn of speed, while a generously wide saddle and the option of a low step-over frame mean e-biking doesn’t get much simpler or comfier.

The brand’s wide range of optional accessories means the Transend E+ can be fitted out as the perfect city commuter or shopper. You can attach front and rear racks, mudguards and a range of light options. The latter includes the powerful Recon HL E 50 STVZO light that offers intense directional illumination yet won’t blind other road users. Cleverly, the light can be controlled from the handlebar once it has been installed.

Fully loaded, the Transend E+ is rated to carry an enormous 156kg of rider and cargo weight, so Momentum is clearly very confident of the build quality.

Of course, with all this carrying capacity, it would be nice to see at least one rack included as standard. At the same time, many users will enjoy building up a new bike to their exact standards, depending on their individual needs. And as further plus points, little touches such as the built-in chain guard and lockable fixing for the battery are pleasingly standard.
