Riese & Müller Supercharger GT Touring HS
A premium-quality speed pedelec with monstrous dualbattery options
Riese & Müller is one of the best-known premium e-bike brands and its designs are novel, practical, distinctively stylish and superbly well made. The Supercharger is no exception. It’s a super-tough e-bike designed for long-distance travel over varied terrain and for carrying plenty as you go.
At its heart is a powerful Bosch Performance Line Speed mid-drive motor combined with a double-battery system, which is what makes the bike a Supercharger and not just a Charger – Supercharger models have two batteries and an uprated motor, while Chargers have a less powerful drive unit and a single battery. These power packs are integrated into the frame but can be removed for charging. Combined they give a meaty 1,000Wh capacity, plus the option to boost your range further with a 1,250Wh upgrade. Even in its standard form this bike can easily ride from town to town, tackle hills or haul loads all day without complaint.
The front of the bike houses a Marzocchi Bomber Z2 100mm suspension fork to help keep you stable at speed. Wide Schwalbe Super Moto tyres have a similar aim and should provide grip and cushioning. With their super-tough casing and large volume, they combine with the fork to make the Supercharger off-road-capable – there’s also a GX frame option, which furnishes the bike with knobbly tyres.
As with all Riese & Müller e-bikes there’s a vast choice of specs, and you can effectively build your own bespoke Supercharger on the brand’s website. You can even power down from the 45kmh (28mph) HS highspeed spec and enjoy the Supercharger as a conventional e-bike. Whichever route you choose you can pick from gearing options, including a traditional derailleur, step-less Vario hub or super-strong, electronically changing Rohloff hub. Then there are display options that include Intuiva, Kiox, Nyon or smartphone-based interfaces, some of which include GPS navigation. Powerful lighting and a robust rear rack are standard on all models, which is always a plus.
