Qwic MD11 Speed
A light and easy-tomanage speed pedelec that offers a full complement of extras
Qwic is a firm from Amsterdam that specialises in making e-bikes and speed pedelecs. Its MD11 Performance is a fullpowered 45kmh (28mph) assist-capable machine for daily commuting. It’s available in standard and drop-top tube frames, and we are leaning towards this lower-slung version given that none of the rest of the geometry changes as you switch from one frame to the other.
At the heart of the bike is a Brose-tf midmotor that produces a sizable 90Nm of torque. Qwic has specifically tuned this to ensure the engine’s performance is optimally matched to the bike.
The motor is powered by a frameintegrated battery, and although a smaller 525Wh capacity is available it makes sense to spend a bit more and opt for the larger 735Wh model shown here. Max it out and the manufacturer claims you might get as far as 150km before needing to recharge.
Despite its capabilities, the MD11 Speed looks relatively normal compared to some overbuilt speed pedelecs. Its reasonable weight of just over 24kg also means it’s easy to handle when riding or should you need to carry it. Keeping your progress smooth as you reach higher speeds is an air-sprung Suntour MOBIE-45 suspension fork with a lock-out function. This is paired with an elastomer-sprung seatpost – a combination that doesn’t add too much weight but still significantly improves rider comfort and control. Then there’s a set of powerful Magura MT5E hydraulic disc brakes to slow you down efficiently.
The rest of the build is similar quality, with hardwired Busch & Müller lighting, mudguards, a semi-integrated rack and an adjustable stem. There’s also a dedicated mount for fitting a licence plate. Gearing comes from Shimano’s SLX 11-speed derailleur system, while Ergon supplies the comfortable grips and saddle.
The bike also benefits from less apparent features, notably a Bluetooth display console allowing you to connect your smartphone.
