Big question, plus your letters
Which performance by a pro rider has particularly impressed you this season?
The way Tom Dumoulin rode solo back towards the lead group after his comfort break. Showed massive character and how far he has come since missing out in the Vuelta in 2015.
Martin Hughes
Philippe Gilbert. Just smashing the field in the Tour of Flanders.
Derek Johnston
Katarzyna Niewiadoma’s performance in the first stage of the Women’s Tour was quite exceptional. Overall, it definitely has to be [Mathieu] Van der Poel. He has done exceptionally well this season on both the road, CX and mountain bike. Took stage two of Tour of Belgium, second in Albstadt, won the 2017 Hansgrohe Superprestige Hoogstraten, and the Boucles de la Mayenne.
Ross Brannigan
Jakob Fuglsang owning the last stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Everyone was watching Chris Froome. Jakob just took it by the scruff of its neck. Chapeau!
Ross Jefferies
Ben Swift, no question. It’s only June, but it’s already safe to say stage seven of the Dauphiné was performance of the year.
Thomas Willingham
Gilbert’s long-ranger at the Tour of Flanders was amazing and I loved the Lukas Pöstlberger unexpected win on stage one of Giro. But favourite is the British one-two on Alp d’huez at the Dauphiné. Fantastic experience to be there live.
Steven Jeffers There have been many top displays from a lot of riders already in the first half of the season. However, the way Alejandro Valverde has performed up to now is outstanding. He’s approaching 40 and having the season of his life.
Dave W Pittman
Michal Kwiatkowski winning Milan-san Remo by less than half a wheel length. Edge of the seat stuff in the finale.
Andy Miller
1. Philippe Gilbert’s 60km solo breakaway to win De Ronde. 2. Greg Van Avermaet bridging to the breakaway, and then going away in a smaller breakaway to win Roubaix. 3. Tom Pidcock’s Tour Series round win complete with Cx-style bike change
Matthew Burke
I would love to say the whole of the Bike Channel-canyon team. They are not only a new team but have stuck right in and worked hard together.
Kieran Challis
Not the most impressive but certainly the most enjoyable so far was Pierre Rolland’s stage win at the Giro. That really meant so much to him.
Ed Thomas
George Bennett winning the overall at the Tour of California, Peter Sagan’s attack up the Poggio in Milan-san Remo, Tom Dumoulin’s defence and attacks in the mountain stages of the Giro, and Dan Martin making the Dauphiné podium.
