After a 2017 season that he will want to quickly forget, it is important Cavendish sets his sights on future goals. Admittedly his Saitama victory won’t be a major highlight that he looks back on at the end of his illustrious career, but the taste of winning on Japanese soil is a good habit to maintain in the lead up to Tokyo 2020 — it can’t hurt as he heads to the cobbles either.
