Ethan Hayter (21, Ineos) Wright surely goes back the longest with his friend, housemate and Worldtour rival Ethan Hayter. The pair, who are the same age, were at VC Londres together as youngsters, and have gone on to win junior European and elite national team pursuit titles together on track, as well as riding in multiple Continenta­l road races. They now rub shoulders in the Worldtour.

Matt Walls (22, Trinity) Also sharing digs with Wright and Hayter, Walls rode as a stagiaire for EF Education First in the second half of last season, before joining Trinity with Tom Pidcock. He was part of GB’S winning TP squad at the 2016 Euros alongside Wright and Hayter, both of whom he has also partnered to Euro U23 Madison gold.

Stevie Williams (24, Bahrain-mclaren) Fast-climbing (literally and metaphoric­ally) Welshman and team-mate for Wright. He spent time as a stagiaire at Bahrain in 2018, before a superb season in 2019 – he won two stages on the way to GC and mountains win in the Ronde de l’isard, and a stage in the Baby Giro – convinced them to sign him.

Scott Davies (24, Bahrain-mclaren) Big-engined Welshman who is a comparativ­e Worldtour veteran, having spent two years at Dimension Data and earning a Giro d’italia finish, before signing for Bahrain for 2020. A former Junior Tour of Wales, he also has four U23 national TT wins to his credit.

Mark Cavendish (35, Bahrain-mclaren) He’s won a few races, apparently…
