WHY IT’S TIME TO CROCHET
With the Nationals officially cancelled and even local crit series confirming they won’t be running, the three-month lockdown training plan seems to have been a waste of time. Besides missing out on my chance to race past Dudley Zoo (yes, we have a zoo!) I also wonder what potential hobbies I have missed out on. I could have been mint at crocheting by now if I had spent my lockdown more effectively.
My last post focused on time trials, but even with some new carbon extensions worth more than my car, I’m just not feeling the love. Being a coach doesn’t always help – seeing that several of my coached riders will likely give me a hammering if I come across them in a 10, I’ll have to start setting the Masters time triallist some warm-up Tabata intervals to make sure I stay ahead of the fast and furious 50-year-olds.
All this has led to me digging out my mountain bike for morale. It is valued at roughly £150 per ride so far. I’ve discovered a whole new catalogue of excuses; more variables equals more excuses. But overall it went well, I only crashed a few times, I’m sure I’ll be doing some double backflip no-handed 360s in no time.
