HOW TO DO AN UNSUPPORTED GRAVEL LEJOG

- MOLLY WEAVER Molly Weaver is an ultra-endurance racer

I am currently preparing to embark on a cycling challenge that covers the entire length of the country, and which will see me travel far beyond my comfort zone.

Riding from Land’s End to John o’ Groats via back roads and gravel was already going to be an entirely new experience for me, but it’s taken on a new form in this coronavirus world. An event that was due to be self-supported will now be self-sufficient. Put simply, we have to complete the ride without entering any building, or going within two metres of another person. Everything I’ll need during the ride I must carry with me.

This event already strives to leave no negative impact on the world, with the requirement of sustainable travel to the start and from the finish, and that concept still stands in the current situation. The lack of any human contact will certainly ensure the health of others is not put at risk!

I’m already learning lessons along the way, and the evolution of the event format has definitely amplified the need to be adaptable. The idea that we can’t control everything has become increasingly apparent this year, and I’m going to need to utilise that knowledge more than ever before.
