Are Team Ineos right to let Chris Froome go?
■ Yes, although probably not a mutual decision. The Richard Carapaz signing was the writing on the wall. Pete Donovan
■ Probably wanted too much money for an aging and recovering rider, given the roster of Grand Tour winners and contenders all younger than him sat there. Steve Bowman
■ We can never be privy to Ineos’s internal discussions, but if Froome felt that, with the present roster of GC winners on the team, he had to fight for leadership and that could cause infighting, then yes. Rob Edwards
■ I would like to believe that Chris still has it in him despite his accident, but Ineos are backing the future. Which I find cold-hearted, after all Froomey has won for them. Es Hamman
■ Better to burn out than fade away; if he was to come 15th or lower in years to come, the last Ineos/sky memory would be a poor one. Time for youth. Stephen Louch
■ How do you know Chris didn’t want to leave? Actually, I don’t believe he would have left if Nico Portal had still been alive. Mitty Witty
■ Too many leaders after signing Carapaz; pragmatic decision but end of an era is still sad. Gareth Williams
■ Good decision by Ineos and a sign of good management to take sentiment out of the equation. At 35 and after a major accident, it’s safe to say Froome’s best days are behind him and a reluctance on Froome’s part to accept that would be disruptive to the team.
Philip Thornthwaite
■ Time waits for no man. Froome is acknowledged as an outstanding athlete and I’m sure Ineos would like the kudos of a five-time Tour champ, which is why I think he will get the best shot this year. However, also look to Sir Dave’s history at British Cycling – it’s about winning, not sentiment. Stephen Burdis
■ I hope Froome succeeds in his new team but Dave Brailsford is doing what he thinks is best for Ineos. No room for sentiment at this level. Jeff Wright
■ Probably a bit harsh in a year of zero competitive races – he’s not had a chance to prove his worth this year. I think we will know a week into Le Tour if it was the right decision. Paul Elliott
