Bike theft from home doubles

I had my bike stolen last year and reported it to the police. Ten months later and I found someone trying to sell it on Facebook marketplac­e, reported it to the police and they weren’t interested. Ended up getting the bike back myself in the end. Great time to be alive if you’re a thief. Darren Dodsley

The Strava story is an urban myth. Thieves could turn up and the bikes are secured in the house, so a waste of time. So many bikes are stolen because they’re kept in sheds and garages with poor security, it’s that simple. Rob Mitchell

Sadly bikes are easily stolen with just a chain around them. There are ways to secure them and make them harder to steal. Many thefts are opportunis­tic, so make it look harder to steal and they’ll probably pass. Pat Leveson
