he full name is Mason Progressive Cycles, and I kind of wanted that “progressive” bit there to show the company is more than just another start-up. We’re doing something new,’ says founder Dom Mason.

Formerly the brains behind Kinesis, Mason enjoyed a successful run of ‘all-season bikes’ that sat somewhere between classy winter trainer and all-day endurance rig. However, with the Columbus Life and Spirit steel tubed Resolution, and its sister bike, the Dedacciai aluminium Definition, Mason is attempting to push the all-season bracket by creating a high-end, performance orientated, all-weather steed. The result is a stunningly well finished disc-only frame with the latest tricks and gizmos up its sleeve – a matching, proprietary Mason disc fork, unique ‘flip-flop’ frame inserts to cope with internally routed cables, hoses or wires, and most importantly for current trends and UK weather, clearance for 28c tyres and mudguards.

‘This bike can be master of all occasions, as well as one you’d be proud to be seen riding. A real investment,’ says Mason. We’ll see if it delivers on that promise when we test one later this year.
