Radio presenter Matt is ready to face the music by cycling for Ows
CAPITAL FM presenter Matt Lissack has helped raise £1,000 by hosting a music quiz in aid of the #StayStrongForOws appeal – and he’s also in training for next month’s Cardiff to Amsterdam cycle for the same cause.
The Capital Breakfast host welcomed anyone with an interest in music to join him for a quiz at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday and the money raised will go to the appeal to help injured Wales rugby star Owen Williams.
Aberdare-born Williams suffered a serious spinal cord injury playing for Cardiff Blues in Singapore.
A team of around 40 cyclists will travel to The Netherlands over four days in one of the latest events for the #StayStrongForOws appeal, setting off from the home of Cardiff Blues on June 5.
Matt said he, like so many others, had been touched by Owen Williams’ story and was determined to do something to help – and with the £1,000 raised by the quiz and an additional £1,400 already in pledges ahead of the Amsterdam cycle, he’s well on his way to doing just that.
He said: “When I first heard about Ows’ story, it touched me – he’s a young guy with everything in front of him.
“I’d like to think if something like that happened to me, or to anyone else’s career, people would help.”
Speaking about the Cardiff to Amsterdam cycle, Matt says he’s been training hard.
“I can’t wait,” he said.“I’ve been training now for a while on the Taff Trail, and did the Paris cycle last year, so I know what to expect.
“It was challenging, but it was great fun as well.
“I know a few of the Cardiff Blues boys, and also some of the people who cycled last year who are doing it again. But I think this event is bigger than the Paris cycle – there are a lot more people going.
“We’ve already raised £1,400 just for this event, and everyone has been really generous.”
