Video for Wales Euro anthem up for USA award
IT’S the anthemic song that has captured the imaginations of Welsh football fans as they head to France – but now the music video for Chris Phillips’ Let The Good Times Roll is crossing the Atlantic after being shortlisted for an award in the US.
The brilliant video directed by Jamie McKee, which typifies the hopes and dreams of Wales fans both young and old, has been shortlisted in the best music video category at the Los Angeles Cinefest Awards.
And Chris and director Jamie are hoping it’s a double celebration after the video was also selected in the Best Music Video category at the Cardiff Mini Film festival, to be held at the end of this month.
Aberdare native Chris, who has made several appearances on TV and radio to promote the single, which is available to download from iTunes, said: “I was shocked when I heard, it was so unexpected.
“I received a text telling me it had been shortlisted for an award in America. I showed it to my wife, who said ‘that’s rubbish’. She couldn’t believe it.”
The video has been watched more than 15,000 times online, while the song was released online three weeks early due to demand, with Welsh sporting icons such as Neville Southall and Colin Jackson getting behind the song. Chris believes Let The Good Times Roll, a What’s The Story Morning Glory-style anthem recorded at Duke Street Studios in Aberdare, has all the qualities needed to be a bona fide terrace anthem that will capture the imaginations of the thousands of Welsh fans who will be making the trip to France this week.
“My hopes are to hear it on the opening credits of BBC Sport when Wales are playing in Euro 2016 and I would love for the fans to play it on coaches when they’re on their way to France!”
