-

THE sights, sounds and smells of the Caribbean are coming to Cwmaman again.

For the seventh consecutive year, Cwmaman Infant School and Glynhafod Junior School will be hosting a Caribbean Carnival in the village.

Pupils have been preparing for the carnival by making costumes, playing music on steel drums, taking cookery lessons and obtaining knowledge on Caribbean culture.

The workshop is run by Amaru Chatawa, originally from St Vincent, and is accompanied by his staff to teach the drumming, dancing and help with the magnificent costumes.

Some of the Caribbean staff will fly in from St Vincent specifically for the event. This Friday’s carnival consists of a parade of approximately 220 children, walking from Cwmaman Infants, through Cwmaman village to Glynhafod Juniors where a fete will be held to finish.

The children and staff will be dressed in amazing costumes while Year 6 pupils play music on steel drums, the police will close the road for the procession and lead it by car.

The procession will leave Cwmaman Infants school at 1.30pm and pro- ceed to Glynhafod Junior school where the children will perform songs and poetry.

A spokesman said: “This is our seventh annual carnival and it has always been a wonderful community experience.”
