Good times keep rolling for Chris’ Euro anthem

IT’S the anthemic song that has captured the imaginations of Welsh football fans at Euro 2016 – but now the music video for Chris Phillips’ Let The Good Times Roll has scooped an award at a Welsh film festival.

The song picked up the gong in the Best Music Video category at the Cardiff Mini Film Festival 2016 – the first of what could be a hat-trick of triumphs for the singer and video’s director Jamie McKee.

The brilliant video, which typifies the hopes and dreams of Wales fans both young and old, has also been shortlisted in the best music video category at the Los Angeles Cinefest Awards and the Glasgow Monthly Film Festival.

Aberdare native Chris, who has made several appearances on TV and radio to promote the single, which is available to download from iTunes, said: “I’m really pleased for Jamie more than anything.

“He deserves it because he puts a lot of work into film, whether it be writing or directing, and we have helped each other out a lot over the last 12 months. So he deserves this and he’ll get to look at the award every day. He’s put it on a shelf in his downstairs toilet apparently.

“I couldn’t go to the actual ceremony as I had a gig, so when Jamie texted me to say it had won, I couldn’t believe it.

“We’ve got the Glasgow and Los Angeles ones up next so who know what’s going to happen. I’ll have one of those stars on that pavement in LA this time next year!”

The video has been watched more than 20,000 times online, while the track was released three weeks early due to demand, with Welsh sporting icons such as Neville Southall and Colin Jack- son getting behind song.

Chris said the success of Let The Good Times Roll, a What’s The Story Morning Glory-style anthem recorded at Duke Street Studios in Aberdare, has exceeded his expectations.

“The song has brought me some momentous moments over the last few months, but what tops it all is having messages the from people in France saying that they have been playing it in their cars, and hotel rooms. That’s what I wanted more than anything and it’s happening.

“I was up in Manchester last weekend and there was a lad with a Wales bucket hat on. He came across the bar and said he recognised me and that he had downloaded my song. For two minutes, I felt famous.

“When I wrote the song 13 years ago, I could never have imagined it to be honest.

“If my songs were my kids then this would be the golden boy of the family.”
