Choir on song for fundraising concert

-

A SUMMER concert is the latest event in a busy year for Cynon Valley ladies’ choir Cytgord.

The choir will hold their summer soirée at Abercwmboi Rugby Club on Thursday, July 21, and they will be raising money for cancer charity Tenovus.

It will be compèred by Gwyn Morgan, while close harmony singers Croeso and harp group The Ladies of the Marches will also perform.

Admission is £6 with a buffet included.

The choir has already raised £400 for charity this year, with member Rhonwen Llewellyn handing a cheque to Welsh Hearts volunteer David Healy.

Led by their director Janice Harris and accompanied on the piano by Jennifer Jones MBE, Cytgord raised the money in a concert during March at the Ebenezer Chapel in Trecynon.

Also appearing was Thomas Phelps, a poet from the Rhondda, while Megan Rolls, of Llwydcoed, played the harp.

Marilyn McAdam, choir secretary, said: “Cytgord always welcome new members. Being a Welsh speaker is not essential as practices are conducted bilingually.

“The aim of the choir is to enjoy singing, to raise funds for charity, to socialise and to assist in learning Welsh.”

Choir rehearsals take place at 7.15 pm to 9pm on Thursdays (during school term times) in the vestry of Siloa Chapel, next to the library in Aberdare.
