Rugby clubs set for face off at festival
TWO Cynon Valley rugby clubs will go head-tohead for charity on Friday to launch the three-day Farmageddon festival.
Hirwaun RFC will host Aberdare RFC at the Welfare Grounds in Hirwaun on Friday, July 1, with proceeds split between Ward Six at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon in Mountain Ash – in memory of past Hirwaun player Bobby Phillips – and the #staystrongforows Welsh Charitable Trust.
And, with the game kicking off at 6.30pm, the hosts have not forgotten the other big match going on that day – with Wales’ Euro 2016 quarter final against Belgium being shown on a large screen from 8pm.
There will be a licensed bar under a large marquee, while there will also be a BBQ. Entertainment includes On Q Harmony, Jamie Elvis Yates, Elvis Legsley and Ceri Haggett, with all past players of both clubs invited.
On Saturday, from 2pm to 10pm, will be the Cynon Valley’s own Glastonbury, with the Farmageddon 2016 music festival.
Entrance is £5 on gate and includes music from Half a Step Higher, Josh Garrett, The Breakfast Club, The Spectrums, Tracy Island, Frankie Spain and the Inquisition Position, Plasterscene, The Dole Age and The New Revival.
On Sunday, from 11am to 5pm, will be a family fun day with free entry.
Face painting, dance groups, a jazz band, bouncy castles, face painting and DJ are among the events being put on.
One of the organisers Steve Richards, of Hirwaun RFC, said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s event.
“Last year we raised £2,500 for Macmillan, and this year we are doing it for Mountain Ash Hospital and #StayStrongForOws.
“We’ll have a big screen at the Farmageddon charity match for the Wales v Belgium game at 8pm.”
