Road works to improve traffic flow

THE roundabout near Asda in the Cynon Valley will soon be widened using £100,000 council funding to improve traffic flow in the area.

Part of the road approaching the roundabout – which lies between Aberdare and Cwmbach – will be widened and lengthened by Rhondda Cynon Taf council.

Traffic approaching from Cwmbach will soon benefit from a longer, wider road in the left turn lane towards Aberaman Industrial Estate. The council says with more vehicles able to use that lane, it will free up more space for vehicles in the right-hand lane, heading straight on to Aberdare or right to Asda. Works are set to begin in the week commencing July 25 and will last for an estimated four to six weeks.

Andrew Morgan, leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf council, who is the cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: “Myself and my cabinet wholeheartedly agree that improvements to our highways and structures continue to be a key priority when it comes to allocating our financial resources.

“We will be investing over £23m in Highways Improvements, Infrastructure, and Strategic Projects over the next three years – this is on top of the £53m we have already invested since 2011 meaning that by 2018/19 we will have invested over £76m in these key areas in less than a decade.

“The Asda roundabout works will help ease congestion on one of Aberdare’s busiest roundabout by improving traffic flow and capacity for motorists in the area.

“The targeted works are likely to cause disruptions to motorists and I would like to urge residents to support us while these essential works are carried out as it is for their longer term benefit.”

Details of likely disruptions and updates will be posted on Rhondda Cynon Taf council’s social media sites.
