Rewbury tipped for Merthyr return

-

FORMER Merthyr Town defender Jamie Rewbury could be set for his third spell with the club.

He left the season before last concerned about the extra travelling after The Martyrs had been promoted to the Premier Division of the Evo--Stik Southern League.

Rewbury returned to Welsh League side Cambrian and Clydach for another campaign with the Rhondda club.

He made two Third Divsion appearances for Swansea City in 2004 before signing for the then Merthyr Tydfil.

He has been training with Merthyr this close season. Sessions, under new manager Gavin Williams, have seen lots of players turnng up, and the boss will have to decide who he is going to sign.

Fans feared that Adam Davies and Ian Traylor could be persuaded to follow former manager Steve Jenkins to Hereford, where he is now assistant manager. But Traylor has been training with Merthyr, while it is believed that defender Davies, who won most of the awards last season, has been on holiday.

The pre-season friendlies start on Saturday with a game against Penydarren Boys’ and Girls’ Club, 2pm. Admission £3 for adults and senior citizens, under-16s free.

On Tuesday, July 12, they host Abergavenny, the scheduled game now being switched to Merthyr. Admission prices stay the same for this match. Kick-off 7.30pm.
