Young stars triumph as thousands compete in the South Wales Primary Schools Tennis Finals
YSGOL Gynradd Gymunedol Gymraeg Llantrisant’s Year 3 and 4 boys were crowned winners at the South Wales Primary Schools Tennis finals.
Schools from Cardiff, Swansea, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Vale of Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire took part in the tournament.
About 3,000 pupils took part in qualifying matches around South Wales, with the winners progressing to the finals at David Lloyd Cardiff.
“It was great to see the continuing growth of involvement in nontraditional areas, such as Merthyr Tydfil and Torfaen, which saw more than 300 children taking part for the first time,” said Mark Lewis, Tennis Wales regional participation officer for South Wales.
“Areas in their second year of full delivery such as Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taff also saw growth from last year, with more than 200 attending in Caerphilly and 250 in RCT.
“Events in the bigger cities were delivered to great success by the likes of Newport and Swansea Tennis Centres, Sport Cardiff, Diamond Tennis Academy, Tennis Squad and Vale Tennis Academy.
“It really shows that kids right across South Wales are enthusi- astic about playing tennis.”
