Cynon Valley

Morgan’s Musings

- with Andrew Morgan

I WAS delighted to welcome HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to the National Lido Wales and Pontypridd earlier this month.

This event once again placed Rhondda Cynon Taf on a national stage, all thanks to the success of the Lido which has had nearly 70,000 visitors so far.

As you may have seen, the Lido has received significant national media interest in recent weeks as a result of the many local campaigns taking place across the UK to re-open Victorian lidos which all point to the success of our local facility.

The facility is without doubt making a difference to the local economy and that is why, as part of Cabinet proposals to develop the former Taff Vale precinct site, we are seeking to progress options for a second river crossing to provide a better connection to the park and all it has to offer to the town centre.

The Council continues to deliver upon its three year, £200m investment programme with improvement works recently completed at Bronwydd Swimming Pool and Ystrad Rhondda Sports Centre and underway at Abercynon Sports Centre.

The investments in these fantastic facilities have attracted huge interest and there has been a noticeable uptake in membership as a result.

This same investment programme will see major structural works take place to a number of key road networks in the County during the summer holidays. It is impossible to avoid disruption, particularly in the case of major works to the Rhigos Mountain Road. To make such major enhancements there will need to be a complete closure of the road for a three week period starting 25th July. It is anticipated that the road will reopen on or around 14th August under traffic management to allow work to be finished off.
