New chapter as dream monster game released
A COMPUTER game which has been developed in the Cynon Valley will go on sale to the public this week.
Deceptive Games, based in Abercynon, has created The Secret Monster Society, a 2D comedy adventure game aimed primarily at children.
Chapter One of the game will go on sale for PC and Mac on Thursday, July 28, and it will be released for the PlayStation and Xbox networks in about six months’ time.
Gamers will get the chance to play as Blithe Dalrich – a dream monster of the ‘underworld’ who, with the aid of his best friend Aphonic, sets off to stop an evil villain who is destroying human dreams.
And the game has been solely created by the com- pany based at Navigation Park Industrial Estate.
Gavin Powell, of Ynysybwl, game director for Deceptive Games, was formerly a programmer for the University of South Wales – and said he is looking forward to the game’s release.
He said: “Thursday will see the game released on PC and Mac – it’ll take us a good six months to import it to PlayStation and Xbox.
“We’re very excited about it being released and a bit nervous, too.
“We haven’t particularly got a number that we want to sell, but obviously the more the better.
“We’re only nervous to see the opinions of people – but we do expect them to like it.”
Gavin also said where the best place to buy the game from Thursday will be.
“There are various sites but the main one will probably be the Steam website,” he added.
“It’s the biggest retailer and the main place everyone seems to flock to.
“This release is for Chapter One of the game, and Chapter Two will come out in another two months, and then Chapter Three and so on.
“And that will then coincide with the release on PlayStation and Xbox.”
