The Guest “A” produced a fantastic display on their trip to the Martyrs Club running out confident and comfortabl­e 7-2 winners.

Colin Howe & Bradley Howe 100 apiece got the hosts off to a great start with a break over Scott Bayliss 125 & Dale Pinch 140, but the Guest hit back swiftly in the next leg with Craig Morgan 100 & Steve Thomas 125 getting the better of Ray Phillips & D. Howe 140 for a level game.

The first hold of throw of the match came in the final pairs with Jamie Evans 140 & Tex Pearce beating Peter Worrell & Roy Phillips in a fine game.

The first singles contest saw the Guest extend their lead to 3-1 with Justin Davies breaking the throw of Ray Phillips and this then rapidly became 4-1 with Andrew Coombs 100 holding over Ray Phillips.

Scott Bayliss 123 edged past Steve Evans 100 putting the visitors 5-1 ahead but then a splendid showing from Colin Howe 100,137, saw him beat Jamie Evans 125 against the darts to pull a second point back for the hosts.

A fantastic eighth leg saw Craig Morgan 2x100 break the throw of Bradley Howe 100,123 making it 6-2 before Steve Thomas 100 held throw over Alan Pearce to complete a fine win.

SECTION FOUR ABERFAN SOCIAL CLUB .......................................... 4 ROSE & CROWN ............ 5

A keenly fought contest saw the Rose just shade the result with the match being decided in the very last leg.

Kevin Downing & Peter Emanuel took the first pairs for the home side against the darts with victory over John Wood & Rhys Donovan but the visitors were quick to reply with Phil John & Trevor Williams beating Josh O’Keefe & Vic Jones 120 away to level at one apiece.

Charles Davies & G. Jones then nudged the Social back ahead at 2-1 going into the singles with victory over Jason Launchbury 120 away & Steve Evans against the throw.

Peter Emanuel extended the home sides lead with a hold in the first singles over Steve Evans to 3-1 but back came the away side in the next game with veteran John Wood scraping past the disappoint­ed Charlie Davies 100,120.

Jason Launchbury 100 then levelled the match with victory over Kevin Downing in a tight battle, but parity was brief as Vic Jones 127 beat Trevor Williams 100 to put the home side back ahead at 4-3.

Rhys Donovan 100 kept the match very much alive with a break over Josh O’Keefe squaring at four each setting up a last leg shout out which saw old campaigner Phil John hold throw over G. Jones gaining a victory over G. Jones earning the Rose the narrowest of wins.

SECTION FIVE FARMERS ARMS “B” ... 2 PENYDARREN SOCIAL CLUB “A” ......................... 7

The Pen started brightly with Phil Bond 100 & Jonathon Evans holding throw over Neil Roberts & B. Evans but the Farmers were quick to get back on level terms with Matthew Evans & A. Thomas beating G. Jones & P. McCarthy.

The final pairs leg saw R. Beynon 2x100 & Nigel Owen secure a 2-1 lead for the away side heading into the singles with victory over Keith Westcott & Dean Moulds 2x100 in a very exciting game.

A splendid first singles saw G. Jones 100,121,93 out extend the visitors lead with a break over Matthew Evans 100, 140 and then a hold from Nigel Owen over A. Thomas saw the Pen go 4-1 ahead.

R. Beynon 2x140 found the target in his game with Neil Roberts extending the away side’s advantage and this then became 6-1 with Jonathon Evans 100 beating B. Evans 101 in a hard fought battle.

Phil Bond 100,140 then played his captains role for the Pen beating Neil Williams for a 7-1 lead before Dean Moulds 132 took the last leg and second point of the match for the Farmers with victory over S. Clark against the throw.

MERTHYR VALE EX CLUB (DAGGERS) ......... 6 PENTREBACH LABOUR CLUB ............................... 3

The away side got off to a good start with Craig Clayton & Chris House holding throw over Lloyd Davies & Phil Morris but the Daggers replied quickly with John Terrett & Warren Rees getting the better of Gareth Jones & Malcolm Price to level at one each.

The final pairs saw home sledgehamm­ers Derek Dobbins & Dai Phelps 100 break the throw of Les Thomas & Robert House to put the home side 2-1 ahead going into the singles games.

Lloyd Davies 100 took the first singles for the home side in an evenly fought contest with Chris House 100 putting the home side 3-1 ahead but the lead was cut to just one point with Craig Clayton holding over Warren Rees 100 in another hard fought game.

Phil Morris then regained the two point lead for the Daggers with victory over Carwyn John and then Dai Phelps 100, 140 extended the lead even further with a fine break over Malcolm Price.

John Terrett 110 away, 100 held throw over Robert House giving the home side a 6-2 lead before Les Thomas 80 away, 140 scored a splendid win for a third point for the away side with a hold over Derek Dobbins.

SECTION SIX CYFARTHFA ARMS ...... 0 HILLS PLYMOUTH CRICKET CLUB ............. 9

The “Cric” made a very profitable trip to the Cyfarthfa Arms running out emphatic winners with a 9-0 whitewash. J

ason Woodford & Rhys Lee opened the scoring for the visitors with a hold over Jarred Russell & K. Driscoll and they quickly doubled their lead with Phil Lewis & A. Walters breaking the throw of J. Bailey & L. Price.

Lee Jones & Eddie Jones then completed the clean sweep of the pairs and a 3-0 lead going into the singles with victory over Dominic Illari & P. Foxhall with a dominant hold.

Lee Jones kicked off the singles for the away side with a break over K. Drscoll, and then fine wins from Jason Woodford and Rhys Lee over Jarred Russell and Dominic Illari respective­ly saw the Cric race 6-0 ahead.

Visiting captain Phil “The Killer” Lewis made a rare appearance, and a more rare winning appearance, when he held throw over P. Foxhall making it 7-0 and then in double quick time they completed the whitewash with Eddie Jones and “Deadly” Dean Lewis accounting for L. Price and J. Bailey in order.

BAILI-GLAS ................... 1 MERTHYR LABOUR CLUB ............................... 8

The Mighty Merthyr Labour Club continued their relentless march towards the Champions of Champions knockout stages with another big win, this time over their hosts at the Baili-Glas for whom missed doubles cost very dear.

Wayne Davies 80 away & Chris Galleozzie 100 just held onto throw against Andrew Morgan 93 away, 116 & Alan Mee in the opening pairs as the visitors went 1-0 and then as Kerry Ryan & Stewart Charleston struggled to start in the second game Anthony Carstairs 100 & Ron Morgan 68 away, 100 took full advantage to put the Labour Club 2-0 ahead.

Rob Evans 61 away & David Rowlands then made it 3-0 with a successful hold over Terry Morgan & Cled Jones as the visitors took control of the game.

Wayne Davies 100 made it 4-0 to the Labour Club with a break over out of practice Stewart Charleston in the first singles and then more missed starting shots from Cled Jones saw them lose more ground as Anthony Carstairs 76 away put the visitors 5-0 ahead.

A brave effort from Andrew Morgan 100 proved of no avail against Chris Galleozzie 100 as the away side increased their lead but the seventh leg finally saw the home side get a deserved point on the board as “Steady Eddie” Terry Morgan broke the throw of Kevin Mahoney in a hard fought game.

The relief though was short lived as Kerry Ryan struggled to hit a starting shot, played very well after 10 o’clock though, leaving Ron Morgan 62 away, 100 to control the game putting the visitors 7-1 ahead with David Rowlands 140 then making it 8-1 with a hard fought win over Baili legend Alan Mee.

SECTION SEVEN GRAWEN ARMS ............ 6 MERTHYR CONSERVATI­VE CLUB ( FORMERLY PLAYING AS MERTHYR RUGBY CLUB) ................ 3

The home side started well with Phillip Locke & Steve Thomas 100 breaking the throw of Geoff Jackson & Ian Cannon but then the dynamic duo of Jonathon Davies & Myrffryn Hughes 100 apiece beat the living legends Tony Hedges & Adrian Thomas to level the match at one apiece.

The first hold of throw of the contest saw the unlikely lads of Eddie Cunnington & Greg Howells beat Marcus Davies & Roy Element 100 to gain the visitors a 2-1 lead going into the singles matches.

Marcus Davies held throw in the first singles leg over Chris Price to level the match at 2-2 but the “Con” regained the lead in the next leg with Myrffryn Hughes 100,140 beating Adrian Thomas in an exciting game.

Phil Locke squared the match at three apiece with a good hold over Jonathon Davies 105 away and then the Grawen took the lead with Steve “Klopp Kat” 100, 125 beating Chris Stansfield in style against the throw.

The excellent Roy “Electric” Element 112 away, 100 held throw over veteran Ron Phillips making it 5-3 to the home side with the vastly impressive Tony Hedges 102 away, 100 breaking the throw of Ian Evans.

SECTION EIGHT COLLIERS ARMS .......... 6 MERTHYR EX CLUB ..... 3

This was an excellent result for the home side as they scored a heavy win over the visiting Merthyr Ex. John Jones & F. Murphy got the visitors off to a great start with a fine break over Wayne Jones & Wayne O’Neill and soon 2-0 appeared on the scoreboard with Dean Thomas & Mark Segerson holding throw over Summer League Pairs Champions Jason Baynham & Jason Davies.

Old stagers Martin Treen & Keith Lewis then made it three zip to the home side with a break over a battling Shane Williams 121 & Andrew Davies.

Dean Thomas was victorious in the first singles with a hold over Jason Baynham 100 but the visitors then got their first point on the board with Jason Davies holding throw over Keith Lewis. Mark Segerson 140 returned the home side to winning ways with victory over Steve Mahoney but back came the Ex with great wins from Wayne O’Neill and Paul Bayliss beating John Jones and F. Murphy 120 respective­ly before Magical Martin Treen broke the throw over Wayne Jones to complete the win for the home side. Very important All sides are reminded that the next Delegate Meeting of the Merthyr Summer Darts League will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at the Merthyr Ex Club commencing at 8pm. All teams must be represente­d and all monies owed to the league must be paid, in cash. No cheques. Teams must also enter their Singles/Doubles registrati­on sheets to go into the weekends draw. No sheets, no entry. To answer teams’ questions regarding the Singles/Doubles Competitio­ns; the playing format is flying start, bull or double to finish and not double start like the league competitio­n. Doubles is 601 best of three legs, Singles 501 best of three.

Also the Competitio­ns will be played around venues in the pubs & clubs on Friday nights, not all in one venue.
