MERTHYR SUMMER DARTS LEAGUE

THE first game of the second half of the Everson’s Sports & Trophies Sponsored Merthyr Summer Darts League produced yet another night of tremendous action in all sections with winners, losers and movers all over the place.

There were some expected big wins and a few shocks and near scrapes as the battle for points continued apace.

This top of the table clash produced a great game that went right to the wire before finally being decided in a last leg shootout.

Ray Williams & Mervyn Matthews got the visitors off to a good start with victory over Peter Locke & Owain Davies in the opening pairs but the lead was short lived as Wayne Titcomb & Brian Nicholas hit back holding throw over Colin Morgan & Meirion Evans to level at one apiece.

The hold of throw theme continued into the final pairs with old campaigner­s Trad Davies & Iory Haines just getting the better of Steve Nicholas & Matthew Charleston for a 2-1 lead going into the singles legs.

The first singles game saw the visitors extend their lead to 3-1 with Ray Williams breaking the darts of Steve Nicholas, but back came the Express to cut the deficit to a single point with Peter Locke beating Mervyn Phillips against the darts.

Phil “The Pile Driver” Locke the levelled the contest at three apiece with the first hold of the singles over Meirion Evans 112 away but parity was brief as Colin Morgan regained the lead for the visitors with a fine hold over Steve Haman.

With the Social Club now 4-3 ahead they stood just one more point away from victory but they could not get over the line as Dazzling Darren Locke held throw over
