A CYNON Valley family say they are “devastated” after a sentimental giraffe ornament went missing from a young girl’s grave.

The family, who do not want to name the girl, say the ornament was a gift from her friends at a local dance group and it went missing from her grave at Aberdare Cemetery over the weekend.

The silver giraffe also had a plaque attached to it – which has been found by the family at the cemetery, leading them to believe the giraffe was damaged by someone.

The girl’s aunt, from Ab- erdare, said: “The giraffe was given by her friends at a dance group.

“It had a plaque underneath which was wired on – and we’ve got that.

“It was there when a family member noticed the giraffe was missing.

“It can’t have blown away in the wind – and if it could, that wouldn’t explain how the plaque has been detached.

“We do hear stories of things being taken from people’s graves, but it had been there for months.”

The family say the ornament has significant sentimental value.

“It might be just be a giraffe to them, but it means so much more to us, and to her dance family.

“All the family are so upset by it – it’s disgusting.

“We are asking the person who took it to please put it back – even if you can’t remember which grave it was from, please leave it in sight – on a bench or something – so we can see it.

“We are going back every day to check.”
