Shannon filming a ‘quirky, dark comedy’ set in Valleys
AN OXFORD University student from Ferndale plans to write and direct a film set in the community where she grew up.
Shannon Britton says she’s always dreamt of making a film that captures the character of the culture and humour of the South Wales valleys.
As part of Oxfordbased film company Requiem Pictures, the Rhondda student will return to Ferndale this month as the writer and producer of a “quirky, dark comedy” called Fish Bowl.
The ambitious project involves students and recent graduates from both the local area and Oxford University.
Fish Bowl, set for release early next year, will then be distributed to film festivals across the country.
Former Ferndale Community School and Coleg y Cymoedd student Shannon is currently studying English at the famous university, and during her time there, she has developed a keen interest in filmmaking.
Shannon said: “We’ve got an amazing crew behind us – they’re not just passionate about filmmaking, but are very excited about the project and what the Valleys have to offer.”
The student is asking for donations to help get the project off the ground, as Fish Bowl’s crew is largely comprised of students and recent graduates still starting out in their careers.
While Requiem Pictures has already secured most of its budget, it is still looking for the support of friends, family and the local community to help them raise the money needed.
Shannon added: “We do need help get- ting Fish Bowl off the ground.
“A donation of any size would be a massive help, and we’d be extremely grateful for the support. It would be so encouraging to know that the community was behind me!”
Also, with a few roles in the film yet to film, members of the local community who want to get involved are being encouraged to get in touch.
