Counting costs of mistakes

- with Pauline Jarman

YOU probably all remember that back in August the Council sent every household an amended four-page enquiry form to update the electoral register because there was a mistake on the original one sent out in July.

On August 11, I asked the Council what was the total cost of re-issuing the form including printing and stationery cost as well as postage to all 100,000 households.

I am still waiting for the answer. Maybe its because it was a very expensive mistake, my guess is about £70,000 or maybe more.

It was good to read the recent Leader article announcing that Wi-Fi had been installed at St Mair’s Day Centre to enable people to get online free.

Mountain Ash Day Centre went online years ago and had very successful computer classes for learners.

There was a suite of computers there, thanks to grant funding secured by hardworking volunteers, but then suddenly the Council withdrew the broadband from the centre as a cost cutting exercise. On the basis of treating all our older citizens equally and fairly it must be restored so that those computers courses can restart, There is a waiting list.

Cwmtaf University Health Board will, this week, hopefully support an improved bus timetable to Ysbyty Cwmcynon, Mountain Ash in partnership with the Council.

This would serve patients, staff and visitors travelling to and from the hospital from Penrhiwceiber, Miskin, Mountain Ash Town, Newtown, Cefnpennar and Cwmpennar.

With car parking at a premium in the hospital, especially for 9am clinics, the new timetable would enable people to consider using public transport and leave their cars at home.

It would also provide an hourly service to the villages in the afternoon. Fingers crossed.
