ABERTYSSWG FALCONS ....................... 22 CALDICOT ..................... 30

ABERTYSSWG kicked off on a lovely sunny afternoon in good conditions.

But a flair up occurred on 15 minutes as both sides got involved and the referee warned both sets of players of their conduct.

From the restart, the penalty was awarded to the home side and a kick to touch was well taken by Bradley Trigg and then driven over for the game’s first score, Richard Theophilus converting.

A penalty on 18 minutes, given for Caldicot’s offside, was pushed wide.

Caldicot got their first try on 27 minutes as the visitors crashed over with their outside-half converting to take the score level to 7-7. Then a lovely move by Aber backs saw centre Kier Hughes race in at the corner but it was not converted.

Aber were sniping and a lovely break by Ryan Smith sadly came to nothing as a lack of support meant his good work was lost.

After the break, the home side were conceding too many penalties, as the visitors converted to make the score 12-10.

Another penalty to the opposition and they hit the bar but it came back as the home side’s defenders were sleeping but this time the penalty was converted to take the lead for the first time, 12-13.

By now, Abers’ game had fallen apart with tackles missed and balls dropped as Caldicot recovered the ball to run under the posts uncontested to score, and the conversion followed to take the score to 12-20.

Aber came back again and got to Caldicot’s line and debut hooker Jake Thomas drove over, but no conversion.

Abers scrum was coming under pressure and a penalty was given on 68 minutes but, again, it hit the woodwork.

On the restart the home side picked up their game, Dai Hynam going over, but the conversion was missed, to put Aber back in the lead 22-20.

Another penalty for offside on 73 minutes saw the away side 22-23 back in front. The visitors were in control and, as the game neared its end, they scored a try and converted it, final score 22-30. Next up is a Swalec Plate home tie.
