Byte Night raises £30,000 for charity

-

WALES’ first Byte Night sleep out event has raised more than £30,000 to support the charity Action for Children.

The charity works to prevent homelessness and provide children and young people with a safe place to call home.

Business professionals from across Wales recently spent the night sleeping out at Cardiff’s Prinicpality Stadium.

They joined more than 1,200 people across the UK in various sleep outs across the UK.

The event was backed by Aberdare teenager Jess Williams, 19, who was helped by the charity when she became homeless.

Since launching the event in 1998, Byte Night has raised more than £8m for charity.

Many projects in Wales benefit from the funding.

The youth support team that aids young people with homelessness issues in Rhondda Cynon Taf is but one example of the projects that benefit from the funds.

Workers help youngsters to develop life skills to help them during the difficult transition from child to adult.

Head of IT at Acorn and Byte Night Wales chair, David Sadler said: “The first Byte Night Wales was a great event and we are all extremely proud to have raised more than £30k.

“We are already counting down to next year’s event.”
