THE NATHANIEL CARS WELSH FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 2

-

NEWPORT CITY ............ 0 AFC LLWYDCOED ........ 3

LLWYDCOED returned from their latest away fixture in the Gwent area with a deserved victory, a much needed one at their second out of six league games.

Llwydcoed manager Craig Boulton was able to select Jordan Ellis and Jonathan Mason for the first time this season.

The opening minutes of the match saw Llwydcoed stage the first series of attacks through Jonathan Mason and Joe Jenkins linking up the play, threatening the Newport defence who cleared the danger through Andy Coleman and Nathan Thompson.

Both sets of players tried to gain possession from midfield with Port’s Matthew Flynn and Liam Grant combining whereas Llwydcoed’s Adam Butler and Jordan Ellis worked to cover the threat.

The opening quarter was quite scrappy both teams giving away possession. Llwydcoed’s defenders Liam Jones, Gabriel Williams, Rhys Welch and Tomos Morris were up to threat of any Port attack at certain times. The latter stages of the first half saw Llwydcoed gain the momentum creating attack after attack, corner after corner and the goal their play deserved arrived, as they won a corner that the Port defence cleared, straight to Jordan Ellis who hit it on the volley into the top corner.

The Port defence were under constant pressure apart from the odd break away when they won a free kick, Llwydcoed’s Tomos Morris headed clear and Llwydcoed wasted a brilliant opportunity to score a second, choosing the wrong option breaking out of defence with players in space. The Port won a corner kick after a short spell of pressure that was cleared before the half time whistle blew.

The second half started and Llwydcoed’s players were the first to everything. Andrew Ellis doing brilliantly, creating an opening with Christopher Vardon and Joe Jenkins. More good play by Llwydcoed allowed Liam Jones to move into space and he picked out Christopher Vardon with a gem of a pass whose left touch gave his team goal number two.

Goal number three soon followed, Joe Jenkins showed his brilliant skill and technique collecting a pass and scored with a rocket shot for goal number three.

The introduction of Llwydcoed’s substitute Shay Friel gave Llwydcoed ever more options with his touch and link play. The organisation of Llwydcoed’s Tomos Morris had been so evident throughout the match. The Port players kept probing and trying to reduce the scoreline but the victory was Llwydcoed’s deservedly, an organised team display working for each other.
