RHONDDA Cynon Taf council is looking for business owners to run a new Italian café at one of its main tourist attractions.

The local authority says the opportunity at Rhondda Heritage Park in Trehafod is an “ideal opportunity” for someone within the catering industry to run a restaurant which honours the Italian community in South Wales.

The new restaurant was announced in September alongside a new mining simulator experience and play centre as part of a £500,000 investment, which is planned to improve experiences for users of the landmark.

As part of the investment, the Level One Café is being replaced by a traditional café with an Italian Theme, honouring the Italian communities who moved to Wales in the early 1900s to open cafés, fish and chip shops and temperance bars in the towns and villages.

Now, RCT council is try- ing to find someone to run a business from the newlook heritage park.

Councillor Joy Rosser, RCT cabinet member for prosperity, wellbeing and communities, said: “The council is providing a rare but real opportunity for chefs or caterers with ambition to establish themselves at our venue, which attracts thousands of visitors all year around.

“It may also be an ideal opportunity for a newlyqualified chef or caterer to make their mark and follow their dream of running their own café as part of the Rhondda Heritage Park brand.

“The successful applicant will operate from within a new, fully-fitted kitchen and Italianthemed café area.

“The franchise is for a three-year tender, with the option to extend further.

“The closing date for applications is noon on Monday, October 31.”
