It was one of Aberdare’s best loved pubs for years... and now the Bute Arms is set to be back in business again in time for Christmas
THE former Bute Arms pub in the centre of a Cynon Valley town will reopen this month, retaining its old name.
The three-storey building is in a prime spot in Victoria Square, Aberdare town centre, and the former pub will be brought back into use by Amber Taverns with a grand opening event taking place on Thursday, December 8.
Formerly the Bute Arms, the building was open for six years as the Beluga Bar – opening in December 2009 and closing permanently in December 2015.
The building will reopen as a pub before Christmas using its old name, and will be run by manager Penny Bradley.
Penny said: “I got involved because I used to work for one of the peo- ple at Amber Taverns – for around eight years. The company is new in South Wales, and is taking on a few projects.
“We hope to give something new to Aberdare – we’ll have cocktails, entertainment, Sky TV and BT Sport.
“The building is being completely refurbished, the whole way through.
“We have a great location and I think people in the town want something like this - there’s only re- ally Wetherspoons otherwise.
“We’re having an opening night on December 8, and we’ll be releasing details of VIP invitations and to win tickets for the opening night.
“Hopefully we’ll become a landmark in the town for years to come.”
The business has been advertising for vacancies on its social media page, and is looking to create around five new jobs.
Penny added: “We’ve had a really good response with applications for the jobs - we’ve got about five or six roles going.
“There’s a lot to do between now and us opening, and we are putting updates online.”
