Warning of travel delays for Super Saturday

SPORTS fans and shoppers are being warned they may have to wait up to two hours for a train this weekend – as the city gears up for a Super Saturday.

On Saturday both Wales’ rugby and football team are playing in Cardiff

More than 100,000 fans are expected in the city on what is the first time both national teams have played on the same night.

Wales’ rugby team take on Argentina at the Princi- pality Stadium at 5.30pm. The football team then take on Serbia at 7.45pm at the Cardiff City Stadium.

On top of that, there are just six weekends left before Christmas, so early festive shoppers are expected in the city.

Changes to public transport and road closures have now been announced, but it has been warned that further clo- sures could be decided on if safety becomes an issue.

From 3.30pm until 8.30pm, Westgate Street, Park Street and Scott Road will all be closed.

After the game, to allow crowds to exit the stadium the road closures will extend to; Cowbridge Road east from its junction with Cathedral Road to the junction with Westgate Street; Castle Street; Duke Street; Wood Street and St Mary Street.

Sloper Road will be closed after the football so crowds can leave the stadium safely. Train services are expected to be busy all day.

While Arriva Trains Wales says all trains will be on the network, there will be limited capacity and services on the the Marches, North Wales and Ebbw Vale lines after 9.30pm.

It has said people should take the earliest train possible if they are heading into Cardiff.

On Saturday evening there will be a queuing system in place at Cardiff Central station but people should be prepared to wait up to two hours.

Cardiff Queen Street station will be closed from 6.45pm.

Football fans are advised to use Cardiff Central or Grangetown stations. After the match, Grangetown will be for fans using the Penarth, Barry and Vale of Glam- organ services only. For Valleys and main line services, fans should use Cardiff Central. Ninian Park Station will be open but only for people travelling to Waungron Park, Fairwater and Danescourt.

There will be extra British Transport Police presence on the network – to report any incidents text 61016. There will be park and ride at Wilcox House on Dunleavy Drive (Cardiff Bay). That costs £10 per car. It opens at 9am and closes at 10pm.

Buses will be diverted out of the central city centre bus stops. Coach parking will be in the Civic Centre – £20 per coach and all city car parks will be open..The taxi rank on St Mary Street will be closed from 3pm and will re-open from 9.30pm.

Mill Lane taxi rank will not be affected and will beopen throughout the day and night.
