WITH 20 points from two games, the defending champions from the Labour Club are already flying high showing they are determined to keep hold of their title.

Their trip to the Pen B proved to be very fruitful as they took control of the match as soon as the words “game on” were uttered.

The opening trio of Gareth Dunn 2x100, Ron Morgan 100, 121 and Kevin Mahoney 100 put the visitors ahead with a hold over Nathan Morgan, Kendrick Howe and Graham Elias 119, and 2-0 then followed with Wayne Davies, Chris Galleozzie and Rob Evans getting the better of Steve Smith, Lyndon Price 100 and Dai Richards.

Wayne Davies 140 and Chris Galleozzie 100, 180, comfortabl­y took the first pairs for the away side with victory over Ray Smith and Graham Elias and then a break of throw from Kevin Mahoney and David Rowlands 100 over Nathan Morgan and Kendrick Howe saw the champs go 4-0 ahead.

Ron Morgan 100 and Gareth Dunn 2x100 then made it a clean sweep of the pairs and a 5-0 lead ahead of the singles with a fine hold over Steve Smith and Lyndon Price.

Chris Galleozzie 2x100, 125 kept up the momentum for the visitors with a 2-0 break over Ray Smith and following a hold of throw from Wayne Davies 2x100, 140 (2-0) over Steve Smith saw the lead extend to a cavernous 6-0.

Lyndon Price 3x100, 130, 135, 100 out then showed some stiff upper lip for the hosts with a great 2-0 hold over Ron Morgan 100 to get the Pen a vital point.

The relief though was very short lived with Gareth Dunn 2x100, 140 edging past Nathan Morgan 5x100, 139, 140 by a 2-1 margin in a thrilling game making it 8-1 to the visitors. Kevin Mahoney 4x100, 121 then secured a hard fought 2-1 break over Kendrick Howe 2x100 for a 9-1 lead with Labour captain David Rowlands 3x100, 121, 115 out then completing the rout with a 2-0 hold over Dai Richards

BAILI-GLAS B ................ 9 GRAWEN ARMS ............ 2

THE Baili B followed up their opening week’s 7-4 win over their A side with a heavy 9-2 victory over the visiting Grawen.

The hosts started well with Andrew Rough, Geraint Thomas 100, 140 and Mervyn Matthews breaking the throw of Jason Launchbury, Kerry Green and Lyn Jones but the lead was short lived with Phil Locke, Marcus Davies 120 and Steve Thomas 2x100 getting the better of Steve Haman, Jeff Pearce and Hywel Llewelyn 2x100 for a level game.

Andrew Rough 101 out and Geraint Thomas 2x100, 140 took the first pairs for the home side regaining their lead at 2-1 with a break over Roy Element 123 and Lyn Jones 100 and then a hold from Jeff Pearce and Steve Haman over Jason Launchbury 2x100 and Kerry Green saw the hosts take a 3-1 lead.

Phil Locke 2x100 and Marcus Davies 156, 102 out then held over Mervyn Matthews and Hywel Llewellyn 100 to pull back to within a point as the sides prepared to face off in the singles battles.

The singles proved to be a great success for the hosts as they won all six games but they will be disappoint­ed with their performanc­e taking countless numbers of darts to secure the wins.

Andrew Rough 2x140 took some 44 darts to beat Marcus Davies 100, 139, 180 by a 2-0 scoreline while Geraint Thomas also required the same number hitting 3x100, 140 to beat Phil Locke.

Jeff Pearce 3x100, 121, 125 used an amazing 71 darts in beating Jason Launchbury 3x100, 135 by a 2-1 margin with 70 darts then being used by Steve Haman 4x100, 119, 104 out in beating Steve Thomas 140 by a 2-1 margin.

Mervyn Matthews threw 51 tungsten missiles hitting 100, 101, 115, 123 in a 2-0 win over Roy Element 100 with Hywel Llewellyn using 67 missiles hitting 4x100, 124 in a 2-1 win over Kerry Green 2x100, 137, 140, 104 out to complete a clean sweep of the singles and a fantastic 9-2 win.

GUEST KEEN BOWLS CLUB A ........................... 9 BAILI-GLAS A ................ 2

THE Baili will be a little disappoint­ed with the result of this game deserving at least two more points from the match which contained an amazing 54 ton-plus scores.

Stewart Charleston 100, Ian Thomas and Kerry Ryan ran into an in-form Craig Morgan 3x100, Jamie Evans 137 and Andrew Coombs 121 in the opening triples as the home side took an early lead and 2-0 then appeared on the scoreboard with Justin Davies 2x100, Phil Williams 2x100 and Tex Pearce holding over a battling Andrew Morgan, Alan Mee and Mark Hulbert.

Kerry Ryan and Terry Morgan 100 found the big scores hard to come by as they saw their throw broken in the first pairs by Justin Davies 100, 135 and Phi Williams 123 but the Baili finally got a mark up on their side with Andrew Morgan and the returning, after a 10-year absence, Mark Hulbert 84 out (two darts) breaking the throw of Craig Morgan 140 and Jamie Evans. The final pairs saw Dale Pinch 2x100, 102 and Steve Thomas beat Stewart Charleston and Ian Thomas for a 4-1 lead heading into the singles matches.

Craig Morgan 100, 125, 140 added to the hosts’ total with a 2-0 hold over Terry Morgan 140, and then a magnificen­t second singles saw Jamie Evans 2x100, 102, 2x140, 134 out break the throw of Stewart Charleston 100, 134, 140, 153 out by a 2-1 margin coming back from 1-0 down to put the home side 6-1 ahead. Phil Williams 100, 120, 3x140 in legs of 18 and 19 darts taxied past Andrew Morgan making it 8-1 before Justin Davies 2x100, 140, 180 breaking the throw (2-0) of a battling Tim Charleston 100, 125. Ian Thomas 3x100, 140 missed vital doubles as he lost 2-1 against Steve Thomas 105, 125, 135, 140 in a hard fought game making it 9-1 before Kerry Ryan 2x100 held throw over Dale Pinch 2x100 by a 2-0 margin to end a hard fought match.

MERTHYR VALE EX CLUB B (DAGGERS B) ... 9 HEOLGERRIG SOCIAL CLUB ............................... 2

THE away side crashed to their second heavy defeat of the season on their trip to the gaining form Daggers B.

Heolgerrig started well with Kevin Roberts 2x100, 140, Ray Williams and Bob Watkins holding throw over Lloyd Davies, Karl Manns and John Terrett but the lead was short lived as Derek Dobbins, Neil Baldwin and Dai Phelps beat Colin Morgan, Trad Davies and Islwyn Price for a level game ahead of the pairs games.

Kevin Roberts and Bob Watkins held throw in the first pairs over Karl Manns 140 and Neil Baldwin to go 2-1 ahead, but again the lead did not last as Lloyd Davies 100, 157 out and John Terrett beat Alan Moore and Islwyn Price for a level game.

The third pairs saw the first break of throw of the contest with Derek Dobbins 100 and Dai Phelps 100, 105 beating Ray Williams 140 and Colin Morgan to earn the hosts a slender 3-2 lead going into the match-deciding singles games.

Derek Dobbins 2x140, 174 took the first singles with throw 2-0 over Trad Davies 140 and Lloyd Davies 2x100, 125, 2x140 broke the darts of Kevin Roberts 3x100 by a 2-1 margin making it 5-2 to the home side.

Karl Manns 100, 140 advanced the hosts’ total another notch with a break over Alan Moore 140 and then the score became 7-2 with Neil Baldwin edging past Colin Morgan 2x100, 140.

Dai Phelps 2x100, 121, 140 made it 8-2 with a 2-0 hold over Bob Watkins 100 with John Terrett 125, 139, 140 then completing the win with a battling 2-1 break over Ray Williams 2x100, 2x140, 142.

DIVISION TWO PENYDARREN SOCIAL CLUB C (SEASIDE) ........ 4 MERTHYR CONSERVATI­VE CLUB 7

THE Con started well with Jonathon Davies 140, Myrffryn Hughes 138, and Chris Price 100 holding over Ceri Stent 100, Barrie Gilby and Gavin Galleozzie 140 but the Pen were quick to reply with Connor John 101, Drew Bradley and Johnny Murphy beating Eddie Cunnington 100, John Hulbert and Greg Howells for a level game.

The first singles went the way of the away side with Jonathon Davies and Myrffryn Hughes 100, 140 holding over Drew Bradley 100 and Ceri Richards only to see the home side reply through Rob Pike and Johnny Murphy with victory over Greg Howells 2x100 and John Hulbert.

A fine showing from Greg Howells 2x100 and Ron Phillips continued the hold-of-throw theme as they beat Barry Gilby 100 and Gavin Galleozzie giving the away side a narrow 3-2 lead heading into the singles battles.

The first singles saw Connor John 100, 135, 140, beat Jonathon Davies 140 in yet another hold of throw by a 2-1 margin to draw the sides level once more and yet again the visitors nudged ahead with Myrffryn Hughes 100, 133 edging past Ceri Stent 3x100 with the seventh hold of throw on the trot.

Game eight saw the first break of throw with Chris Price 100, 3x140 beating Ceri Richards giving the Con a 5-3 lead which they then converted to 6-3 with Eddie Cunnington 135 holding over Drew Bradley 100 in a close game. Greg Howells 125, 140 beat Rob Pike 2x100 making it 7-3 to the Con before local hero Johnny Murphy 2x100 beat Geoff Jackson 2x100 in a thrilling game to earn the hosts a very valuable fourth point.

ROSE AND CROWN ...... 7 PENTREBACH LABOUR CLUB ............................... 4

A HARD fought game saw Pentrebach take an early lead with L Jones, Tony Galliers 100 and Les Thomas 100 holding in the first triples over Kristian Dowd, Kevin Morgan and Ian Laing but the Rose bloomed in the second with Paul O’Dell 2x100, Phil John 123 and Stuart Hughes beating past Eddie Jones, M Price and A Thomas for a level game heading to the pairs legs.

Paul O’Dell 100, 123 and Phil John 140 took the first pairs against the darts beating Tony Galliers and A Thomas as the Rose took the lead for the first time and then they went 3-1 ahead with Kristian Dowd and Kevin Morgan holding over Les Thomas and L Jones in a keenly contested game. Terry Galliers 101 out and M Price 2x100 then took the final pairs for the away side with a fine hold over Rhys Donovan and Ian Laing to trail by one leg going into the singles.

Tony Galliers 4x100, 125 took the first singles for the Pen with a 2-0 break over Kristian Dowd 125 to level the match at three apiece but the Rose hit back again with Paul O’Dell 140 beating L Jones making it 4-3 to the home side. Rhys Donovan 100 held throw over A Thomas to increase the lead but old timer Eddie Jones 2x100 came back from 1-0 down to beat Stuart Hughes 2x100, 119, 123, 134 by a 2-1 margin pulling a fourth point back for the home side. Phil John 100 held throw over Les Thomas by a 2-1 margin putting the Rose 6-4 ahead and then Kevin Morgan 2x100 proved to be another thorn in the side of the away team with a fine 2-1 break over M Price.

MARTYRS CLUB ........... 6 ABERFAN SOCIAL CLUB A ........................... 5

THIS was an extremely hard fought contest from beginning to end going right to the wire before finally giving a winner.

The home side started well taking the opening triples through Bradley Howe 2x100, Ray Phillips and D Howe with a fine break over Jack Colston. Wayne Morris and Josh O’Keefe against the darts but then the Social gave their hosts a taste of their own medicine with Peter Emanuel, Kevin Downing and Arwel Galliers getting the better of Steve Evans, Colin Howe 100, 122 and Alun Pearce 100 for a level game at one apiece.

The first pairs battle saw Vic Jones 100 and G Jones hold throw over Steve Evans and Alun Pearce giving the Social the lead for the first time and then they went 3-1 ahead with Jack Colston 100 and Charlie Davies breaking Colin Howe and Matthew Phillips 140 for a 3-1 lead. Peter Worrell 100, 125 and D Howe then reduced the arrears to a single point with a break over Kevin Downing 100 and Peter Emmanuel in the final pairs leg.

Colin Howe 3x100, 120 took the first singles for the Martyrs with a hold over Vic Jones 100 to square matters at 3-3 and a fine break from Peter Worrell 2x100 over Charlie Davies by a 2-0 margin to edge the hosts into a 4-3 lead. Peter Emmanuel 100 got the better of Matthew Phillips 140 by a 2-1 score in a tough match to again level the match and then yet another break saw Bradley Howe 3x100, 125 beat Jack Colston 100 edging the hosts again but true to form of the singles in this match back came the Aberfan Social with G Jones beating Roy Phillips 100 by a 2-1 score making it five apiece and all set to be decided in the final game. The last game was another hard fought affair with local hero Ray Phillips 2x100, 120, 133 breaking Kevin Downing 2x100, 135 by another 2-1 margin to seal a 6-5 last gasp win for a relieved home side.

DIVISION THREE IMPERIAL HOTEL ........ 5 ANGEL HOTEL .............. 6

ANOTHER hard fought game saw the game swing one way then the other with both sides giving their all in pursuit of the win to climb the table.

Wayne James 140, John Donovan and Adrian Williams 100 claimed the opening triples against the darts with a win over John Pugh, Graham Hancock and Steve Phillips, and the home side kept the momentum rolling with Anthony Prosser, Trevor Williams 123 and Terry Dowman 134 then holding over Ron Davies, Steve George and Rhys Phillips for a 2-0 lead.

Wayne James and Anthony Prosser made the gap 3-0 with a break in the first pairs over Mark Davies 123 and Glenn Callan but then the Angel got into the game with Steve George and Rhys Phillips breaking the throw of Trevor Williams 100 and Idwal Peters.

A fine hold from Chris John and Brent Morgan over Paul Prosser 100 and Alan Hancox saw the deficit then cut to a single point.Chris John 100, 140 was in fine form in the first singles beating Wayne James against the darts to level the match and then the Angel took the lead for the first time with Mark Davies 100 holding over Trevor Williams 100 in a nip ’n’ tuck game. John Pugh beat John Donovan 100 against the darts making it 5-3 to the away side and this then became 6-3 with Ron Davies holding over Idwal Peters in another close game.

The Imp though would not give in and a gritty showing from Paul Prosser 100 over Glen Callan 2x100 pulled a fourth point back for the hosts with Anthony Prosser 100 then breaking Brent Morgan in the final game for a valuable fifth point.

WORTHINGTO­N’S MERTHYR AND DISTRICT DARTS LEAGUE DIVISION FOUR PANTYSCALL­OG INN .. 3 JOHN STREET CLUB .... 8

THE John Street Club made the weeklong trip up to the Scat and made the trip very rewarding by winning by a handsome 8-3 scoreline.

P Clayton, J Evans and B Lewis 100 put the visitors into an early lead with a fine hold over Mike Griffiths, R Pugh and Kevin Matthews and in a break of throw in the second triples J Williams, G Williams 135 and Martyn Jones beat B Pugh, W Davies and M Watkins for a 2-0 lead heading into the pairs games.

Mike Griffiths 2x100 and C Pugh got the home side into the game with a brake of throw in the first pairs over H Samuel and Claire Jones to halve the deficit but the away side hit back in the very next game with G Williams and M Evans getting the better of W Davies and Kevin Matthews to extend their lead to 3-1.

The final pairs then saw J Williams and Martyn Jones 100 hold throw over A Pugh and M Watkins giving John Street a fine 4-1 lead going into the singles.

In-form Mike Griffiths 140 pulled a second point back for the home side with victory over P Clayton 140 in a hard fought opening singles but the fightback was short lived as J Williams held throw over C Pugh putting the visitors 5-2 ahead.

G Williams 100, 121 beat Kevin Matthews further extending the visitors lead and a another good showing from the wily old stager Martyn Jones 100, 100, 140 saw him hold throw over W Davies and a 7-2 lead.

B Lewis upped the visitors lead to 8-2 breaking the throw of B Pugh and then a final break of the match saw M Watkins beat M Evans for a third point for the home side.

FARMERS ARMS A ....... 5 VNU ................................ 6

A FINE start from the VNU saw Steve Darlow 100, 2x140, Rhiannon Jenkins 100 and Clive Powell hold throw over S Price, Steve Hamer and Gary Price for an early lead and this was followed by a break from Errold Jones 100, G Jenkins and Mark Hadley over Wayne Morgan, Dai Jones and Trevor Jones for a 2-0 lead.

Errold Jones and Mark Hadley made it 3-0 to the away side with victory over Steve Hamer and Gary Price and then finally a hold from Dai Jones and S Price over Rhiannon Jenkins 100 and Clive Powell saw the home side get into the match. Wayne Morgan 140 and Trevor Jones then broke the throw of Doug Wills and G Jenkins in the final pairs to cut the deficit to a single point going into the singles with the visitors just 3-2 ahead.

Steve Darlow 100 broke the throw of Dai Jones 100, 114 in the first of the singles games nudging the VNU further ahead at 4-2 but then the Farmers rallied with S Price getting the better of Rhiannon Jenkins and A Price holding over Clive Powell to get back level at 4-4.

Mark Hadley 2x100 held throw over Wayne Morgan 2x100 in a great game to regain the lead for the away side and this they then made 6-4 with Err- old Jones 2x100 breaking the throw of Gary Price. Steve Hamer 2x100 took the final leg of the game with a break over Doug Wills 100, 140 in a terrific encounter to gain a fifth point for the hosts.

■ All teams are reminded that this Friday, November 11 sees the Triples Competitio­n take place at the Penydarren Social Club with roll call at 7.30pm for a start of 7.45pm. Any teams not present at roll call will be eliminated from the competitio­n.

Will all teams please register with the officials on stage on arrival at the venue.

Players are asked to volunteer to mark/ref the first games on with losing teams then providing the marker/ref for the following game on that board before leaving the venue. Failing to carry out your responsibi­lities will result in you being disqualifi­ed from this season’s Doubles and Singles competitio­ns and next season’s Triples competitio­n.

■ All teams are reminded that the next Delegate Meeting of the M and DDL will be held on Tuesday, November 15 at the Merthyr Ex Club starting at 8pm.

All teams must be represente­d and all monies owed to the league must be paid. All delegates are reminded that they must be present at roll call or will be fined as a non-attendance.
