WEST WALES SOLO AND ENSEMBLE DAY

THE West Wales Solo & Ensemble Day (WWSED) will take place on Saturday, January 28, at the Memorial Hall, Burry Port. The event starts at 10am with Youth Band classes followed by Solo, Duet, Trio and Ensembles.

There will be solo competitio­ns for under-10s, under-12s, under-14s, under-16s, under-18s and an open section.

Competitor­s can play either a slow melody or a florid piece of music of their own choosing.

There are sections for Duet or Trio for 14 years and under and Open and an Ensemble of four to eight players for 14 years and under, 19 years and under and Open and finally a Large Ensemble composed of nine to 20 players for the 14 years and under, 19 years and under and an open section.

Youth Bands of 20 to 45 players have sections for 14 years and under, 19 years and under and 21 years and under.

This event is an example of what our brass bands in Wales are doing in order to foster high standards of musiciansh­ip among our young players and Burry Port should be roundly congratula­ted.
