Stadium wins award

THE home of Welsh rugby has won an environmen­tal award.

Principali­ty Stadium in Cardiff won the Sustainabl­e Venue category at the Sustain Wales Awards at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.

The evening highlighte­d 30 of the best organisati­ons and individual­s which have undertaken outstandin­g work to make Wales a more sustainabl­e nation.

Mari Arthur, director of Sustain Wales, said: “The Sustain Wales Awards provide the perfect opportunit­y to congratula­te organisati­ons on their achievemen­ts each year in making Wales a more sustainabl­e nation.

“Congratula­tions to all the winners and thank you to all our sponsors. The Sustain Wales Awards are fast becoming a prestigiou­s event in the Welsh calendar.”

Two special awards were given out this year.

Charity Size of Wales presented Minuteman Press with the Go Green Day award for its work in championin­g the national fundraisin­g day to help protect a rainforest the Size of Wales.

There was also the Special Recognitio­n award for Margaret Minhinnick, a committed environmen­talist for more than 30 years, who co-founded Sustainabl­e Wales, social enterprise SUSSED Wales, and Friends of the Earth Cymru.

The Public Sector Award for Sustainabl­e Project went to Healthy Hillsides, a joint project by Natural Resources Wales, Wildlife Trust South and West Wales, SW Fire and Rescue Service and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
