WITH week three of League action of the Worthingto­n’s Sponsored Merthyr & District Darts League 2016/17 Season now done and dusted the Divisions are now beginning to take shape with the usual movers and shakers in the frame as the sides battle hard for points each week. The action once again was frantic with players straining every tungsten sinew in pursuit of the win that would push their side towards the top of their respective divisions. lead increased further in the next game with Craig Morgan 4x100 breaking the throw of Brian Nicholas 140 by a 2-0 margin. Jamie Evans 3x100 held through over Mark Virgin 125, 140 making it 8-2 with the outstandin­g Dale Pinch 5x100, 140 with two eighteen dart legs beating Dean “DNT” Thomas 2-0 against the throw.

The Grawen made the trip the “Cric” and found the venue very much to their liking as they run out excellent 9-2 winners in a high class game containing some 42 ton-plus scores. Phil Locke 100, Marcus Davies & Jason Launchbury held throw in the opening triples to edge past Phil Lewis 100, Jason Castaldi 100 & Aled Walters 140 for an early lead and this the visitors then doubled with Kerry Green 100, Adrian Thomas 100 & Lyn Jones breaking the throw of Craig Clayton, Rhys Lee 100 & Keith Harnedy ahead of the pairs legs.

The first pairs saw Keith Harnedy 125 & Jason Castaldi break the throw of Jason Launchbury 100 & Kerry Green to get the “Cric” into the game and halve the deficit but the Grawen were soon back on the attack with Adrian Thomas 2x100 & Lyn Jones breaking Craig Clayton 135 & Rhys Lee 100 with a hold in the final pairs seeing Phil Locke & Marcus Davies beating Phil Lewis 2x100 & Aled Walters giving the visitors a comfortabl­e 4-1 lead going into the match deciding singles match-ups.

Phil Locke 5x100 took the first singles with a break of throw over Jason Castaldi 100, 134 extending the lead further and a following hold from Marcus Davies 128, 135 against Aled Walters made it 6-1 to the visitors. Rhys Lee pulled a second point back for the home side with a fine hold over Jason Launchbury 2x100 but the relief was short lived with the Evergreen Kerry Green 3x100, 140 bagging a hard fought 2-1 hold over Keith Harnedy. Adrian Thomas 100,123 kept the Grawen rolling with good 2-0 break over Craig Clayton 100, 2x125, 140 with the final game going 2-1 to the visitors with Lyn Jones 100 beating Phil “Rusty” Lewis 100, 2x125 to completing a fine 9-2 win.

This was a hard slog be- tween the two sides in a match containing 42 tonplus scores with 24 of them being hit by the away side. The match started well for the hosts with Terry Morgan 100, Andrew Morgan & Alan Mee breaking the throw of Kevin Roberts 125, Ray Williams 100 & Trad Davies and a hold from an ailing Stewart Charleston 100,125, Ian Thomas & Mark Hulbert 100 over Meirion Evans, Alan Moore & Richard Calahane 100 saw the Baili go 2-0 ahead.

The doubles legs saw a change of momentum with Kevin Roberts 100 & Bob Watkins edging past a double missing Kerry Ryan 100 & Mark Hulbert 100 with a hold of throw and then a break from Iory Haines 100 & Trad Davies over Stewart Charleston 140 & Ian Thomas levelled the match at two apiece. The final pairs leg saw a hold of throw from Ray Williams & Mike Evans 100,140 over Andy Morgan & Terry Morgan 100 as the visitors took a 3-2 into the singles battles.

The first singles saw an ill feeling Stewart Charleston 140, somehow manage a 2-1 hold over Mike Evans 3x100, 125, 140 to level the contest but parity was brief as Ray Williams 3x100 beat Terry Morgan 2x100, 140 putting the away side into a 4-3 lead. The scores were all square after the next game with Ian Thomas 2x100,120 beating Bob Watkins 121 but yet again Heolgerrig hit back and this time it was in style with veteran Iory Haines 3x100, 76 out 18 dart first leg & 100,125 16 dart second leg beating Mark Hulbert 140 with a 2-0 hold for a 5-4 lead. A hard fought tenth leg saw King Kevin Roberts 3x100 beat Kerry Ryan 100 for a 6-4 lead and in the final game Andrew “I Won My Game” Morgan 100, 140 edged past Meirion Evans 100 with a 2-0 break. the first of the pairs legs with a fine hold over Roy Phillips & Alun Pearce to fire a winning shot for the Winch but the Martyrs were quick to reply with Colin Howe 2x100 & Matthew Phillips 100 holding to beat Anthony Lennon & G. Moore for a 3-1 home lead.

Peter Worrell 100 & Bradley Howe 2x100 then made it 4-1 to the home side heading into the singles with a fine break over C. Roberts & D. Davies 100.

Colin Howe 3x100, 180 held throw in the first singles 2-0 over Andrew Morgan and then a 2-0 break from Peter Worrell 3x100, 124, 134 over Paul James 100 giving the Martyrs a healthy 6-1 lead. Matthew Phillips 125 beat G. Moore 100,121 by a 2-0 margin in a hard fought game increasing the lead further and an excellent 2-0 break from Bradley Howe 100,120,180 over Anthony Lennon saw the hosts go 8-1 ahead.

Roy Phillips 121 beat D. Davies 100 further extending the lead before K. Pike 2x100, 140 held throw in the final game 2-1 over Ray Phillips 100, 125 in a hard fought game to secure a second point for a battling Winchester side.

The Con top trick of Myrffryn Hughes 100, Jonathon Davies & Chris Price got the away side off to a great start with a hold over Wyndham Green, Arwel Galliers & Jack Colston but the lead was short lived with Peter Emanuel, Charlie Davies & Kevin Downing holding over Colin Lloyd, Ron Phillips & John Hulbert for a level game.

Myrffryn Hughes & Jonathon Davies took the first pairs with a hold over Charlie Davies & Peter Emmanuel putting the visitors back in front at 2-1 and then a strong game from Chris Price 2x100 & Ron Phillips saw them break Wyndham Green & Josh O’Keefe for a 3-1 lead. A break in the final pairs had Arwel Galliers 138 & Jack Colston beat Colin Lloyd & John Hulbert to cut the arrears to a single point going into the match deciding singles games.

Chris Price broke the throw of Kevin Downing in the first singles putting the Con Club 4-1 ahead and 5-1 quickly followed with Jonathon Davies 100, 120 holding successful­ly over Peter Emmanuel. Myrffryn Hughes won his third match of the night with a 2-0 break over Charlie Davies but there was some joy for the home side in game nine with Arwel Galliers breaking John Hulbert 140 for a vital third point for the home side. Colin Lloyd 101, 134 broke the throw of Jack “The Lad” Colston putting the away side 7-3 ahead with Ron Phillips 121, 180 beating Josh O’Keefe 100 in the final match to complete the win.

ROSE & CROWN ............ 3 PENYDARREN SOCIAL CLUB “C” (SEASIDE) .... 8

This contest resulted in an excellent away win for the Pen “C” with the visitors taking the opening pairs through Ceri Stent 2x100, Johnny Murphy 100 & Ceri Richards 125 89 out over a shell shocked Paul O’Dell, Phil John & Rhys Donovan 135 and then a break from Drew Bradley 116, 127, Connor John 100 & Barrie Gilby over Kevin Morgan 122, Stuart Hughes & Steve Evans saw the Pen make a perfect start with a 2-0 lead going into the pairs legs.

Old campaigner­s Paul O’Dell & Phil John got the Rose showing form in the first pairs with a break over Ceri Stent & Ceri Richards 100 to get a point on the board and then a fine hold from Kevin Morgan 100 & Rhys Donovan over Johnny Murphy & Connor John 100 apiece saw the sides draw level at two apiece. The final pairs saw Drew Bradley 100, 86 out & Gavin Galleozzie put in a steady showing to hold over Stuart Hughes & Steve Evans to put the away side back ahead at 3-2 going into the singles legs.

Gavin Galleozzie took the first singles for the Pen beating Steve Evans in a close game nudging the visitors further ahead and then in a really hard fought affairs Ceri Stent 100,125 scraped past a disappoint­ed Rhys Donovan 3x100 as the Rose youngster missed several shots at a winning double. Drew Bradley 101, 140 broke the throw of Stuart Hughes 100 in the eighth game putting the Pen 6-2 ahead before Paul O’Dell 140 beat Connor John 2x100, 140 as doubles went a missing this time for the Pen lad.

Barrie Gilby 2x100 extended the visitors lead to 7-3 with a break over Kevin Morgan 100 before Johnny Murphy 2x100, 140 completed the victory with a good win over Phil John 2x100.

MERTHYR EX CLUB ..... 7 COLLIERS ARMS .......... 4

Despite the one sided looking score line this was a closely fought game with the away side a little unlucky not to take a further point or two. It was something of a strange start to the contest with Jason Baynham 140, Paul Bayliss & Denzil Griffiths 100 breaking the throw of John Jones 100, F. Murphy & Jimmy Rees putting the home side 1-0 up but the Colliers hit back immediatel­y with a break of their own as Martin Treen 140, Keith Lewis & F. Grey beat Jason Davies Wayne Jones & Wayne O’Neill to tie the match at 1-1.

Martin Treen & Keith Lewis put the visitors ahead at 2-1 with the first hold of the game in the first pairs over Jason Baynham & Wayne Jones 100 apiece but their lead was short lived with Paul Bayliss & Andrew Davies 100 beating John Jones & F. Murphy for a level game. A third successive hold then had Jimmy Rees & Trevor Lewis beating Jason Davies 100 & Shane Williams giving the visitors a slender 3-2 lead going into the singles battles.

The first singles saw Jason Davies 4x100, 121,125, 140 in great form to wipe out the Colliers lead with a 2-1 hold over a gallant John Jones 100, 117, 122 and then Jason Baynham 2x100 edged the hosts ahead with a 2-0 break over Trevor Lewis. Andrew Davies 2x100, 140 held over Martin Treen 121 with Steve Mahoney 2x100 making it a little more comfortabl­e for the hosts with a 2-0 break over F. Murphy 100. Veteran Keith Lewis edged past Matthew Sullivan with a hard fought 2-1 break gaining the Colliers a valuable fourth point before Shane Williams 100 claiming the last point for the Ex with a 2-1 win over Jimmy Rees 138. Kevin Hyde & Jimmy Winstone 100 apiece. S Davies 140 & D. Wells finally got the Morlais on the scoreboard with a hold over Neil Winstone & Kyle Newton much to great relief from their teammates as the sides prepared for the singles encounters.

Steffan “Van” Williams 100 earned the home side another point with a hold over N. Griffiths 140 before S. Davies pulled one back for the Tavern with a good hold over Dean Jenkins. Chris Davies 138 got the Bullet back on the winning trail with victory over Adam Hyde 100 with Steven Walker & Sharif Rasul adding another two points for the hosts with wins over Kevin Hyde and Chris Brogden respective­ly. Gareth Coombs 100 took the last game of the match with a hold over Anthony Morris 100 therefore claiming a third point for the away side.

This was a very disappoint­ing result for the home side as they were in the match until the singles legs when they were completely blown away. Wayne Benbow 100, Craig Rees & Roy Wilkes took the opening triples over Mike McLoughlin 100, Kieron Meek & Karl Hunt but the Lord were quick to get back into the game with Kevin Snowden, Brian Meek & Mike Matthews beating David Spencer, Steven Wilkes & Carl Jones to level at one apiece.

The first of the pairs legs went the way of the home side with Alan Driscoll & Karl Hunt 100 breaking the throw of Tony Pollard 2x100, 140 & Adam Pollard and then a hold from Kieron Meek & Brian Meek 100 over Carl Jones & Craig Rees saw the home side take a 3-1 lead before Wayne Benbow & Teg Powell held throw over Mike McLoughlin & Kevin Snowden 100 to put the visitors just one point behind heading into the singles.

The singles proved to be a complete wipe out for the Lord as the Guest bowled them over taking all six legs. Wayne Benbow 100 started the ball rolling with a break over Kieron Meek 100 and a hold by Tony Pollard over Kevin Snowden saw the Guest go 4-3 ahead. Teg Powell 140 beat Mike Matthews 100 to make it 5-3 and then further wins for Adam Pollard, Steve Wilkes and David Spencer 125 over Alan Driscoll, Mike McLoughlin and
