A 14-YEAR-OLD girl has been taken to hospital after she was hit by a car on a busy Valleys bypass during Thursday’s rush hour.

The incident happened at around 5.45pm on the A4059 Aberdare Bypass – the road between the Ynys and Asda supermarket – when police were called to the scene – and the road was closed for around five hours while police carried out in- vestigations. According to a Welsh Ambulance spokesman, the girl sustained head injuries and was taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a grey coloured Suzuki Swift car on the A4059 between the Aberdare Community School and The Asda Aberdare Superstore.

“We would like to speak to any person who witnessed the collision or who stopped to provide assistance, or anyone who may have seen the vehicle being driven prior to the collision and who have not yet given their details.”

The road was closed in both directions until around 11pm, causing queuing traffic, affecting those going between Hirwaun and Abercynon.

Stagecoach Wales said some of its bus services had been cancelled due to the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting ref 1600455017 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
