PEOPLE who want to find out more about a new £7.9m Cynon Valley primary school can do so at a public meeting next week.

Residents in Cwmaman can view plans for the area’s new community primary school at a public exhibition on Monday, December 5, at Glynhafod Junior School – which is set to permanently close alongside Cwmaman Infants School for the stateof-the-art new building.

Meanwhile, a new artist’s impression of what the school will look like, when built on the village’s former colliery site, has been released by Rhondda Cynon Taf council .

Council staff and representatives from contractors Morgan Sindall will be on hand to answer questions and discuss plans for the new school during next Monday’s display, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

Eudine Hanagan, RCT cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, said: “The exciting plans for the new school feature a Multi-Use Games Area and new play area as part of wider developments benefiting the community.

“In Cynon Valley we have already delivered a number of outstanding new schools such as the £50m Aberdare Community School, Ynysboeth Primary School, Cwmbach Primary School and Abercynon Community Primary School.

“As the exciting artist’s impressions for the new school show, this is an excellent opportunity for Cwmaman to have a purpose-built, all through, 21st Century school in the village to replace the old Victorian buildings of Cwmaman Infants’ and Glynhafod Juniors.

“This new school will also make it easier for parents whose children currently attend the two schools located approximately half a mile apart.

“I would encourage residents to come along to Glynhafod Junior School on December 5 to speak to officers and project staff from Morgan Sindall about this truly exciting development.”

The new 200-pupil school for three to 11 yearolds is on course to open 2018.
